Well that's my favourite post of 2017 so far. Doubly so if you have a Y-chromosome in the mix. Pushing your cycling abilities can indeed put you in some weird emotional places.

Managed to hit my goals of 300 days on a bike (including 171 school runs), a century ride each calendar month, a 200mile ride and 5,000 miles overall. The only goal I didn't hit was to spend less time cycle campaigning, but in that instance I would say the end result was worth it :-)

The highlight of my time on the bike had to be the North Coast 500. Thoroughly recommend it.

Oh, & my wee one cycled with pedals for the first time #prouddad

10,218km including an effortless pb for December thanks to the fantastic weather.

2016 was marked by my first super randonneur award (rides of 200, 300, 400 and 600km), which I was very pleased to get under my belt (it takes a bit of luck as well as stupidity).

On two occasions I nearly embarrassed myself by crying with relief in public. Once in Macdonalds in Galashiels at the end of the 600. The other time was I think on 23 Dec after a stonkingly awful extended commute (thanks to the stonkingly awful weather)

- Cycle 5,013 miles, of which about half is commuting
- Run 0 (except the occasional run for bus or child or bus with child, and if it's not on Strava it doesn't count)
- Swim 0 (ditto, but without the bus, obviously)

The intention was that it would be a slightly rounder number, but I was led astray by @Hankchief today so I ended up doing a slightly longer ride than expected.

Most of my mile-eating seems to come when there is a lack of public transport 26/12/15 depart 03.00 lovely moonlit ride Leicster to Birmingham for morning coach.

26/12/16 lazier daytime departure 13.00 for same ride to visit someone in Brum for supper/Irish Coffee and then wait for 02.35 coach back.

Tempted for 01/10/17 to ride back after fireworks unless anyone wants to share a car? Depending on numbers it may be worth taking a car club car through - unless there is a decent gig on to fill in time until early coaches. Last year I noted musicians heading for Cramond at 01.00 and saw the same guys returning as the coach went through Roseburn.

Eddington numbers are based on days rather than rides, so that would be 14 @arellcat

I found it a really good motivator to squeeze a few extra miles into a day because even if you've done a ride that will count towards your next E-number, if you tack a few more miles on the end, then it will 'last' longer to contribute to future increments.

I reached my 9,000km for the year with a 39km ride to Saltoun Station this afternoon. I'm pleased with that especially as it was all recreational. Beating it would have turned it from a challenge into a chore though. So it was the perfect target distance. Elevation gain: 82,390m. Lowest mileage month was July as usual.

My Eddington number is lowly, probably about 25. What counts as one ride? Today for example I did a ride of 4 miles, one of 6 miles for some quaxing and then a ride home of 4 miles. Or do I count it as one day of 14 miles?

2016 so far
Cycle 5124 km (3184 miles)
Swim 0 km
Run 0k m

I did 33% of my riding in the torpedo and 42% on my sparkly purple recumbent. I didn't do very much riding purely for leisure.

Tomorrow I will probably go out to watch the fireworks and see in the new year, so that would add another 10 to 15 miles.

My only score is for cycling:
10,800 miles = 17,381km
Those who like stats will notice that is a nice round 900 miles a month. There is no way I could stop on a figure such as 6099kms like fimm. It would drive me crazy!!!

Oooh, stats! I love stats.

2016
Swim 4.34 miles = 6.98 km
Cycle 1537.14 miles = 2473.79 km
Run 834.93 miles = 1343.69 km

2016 I was only training for 1 marathon instead of my usual 2 a year due to injuries, however, 2017 I've signed up for the Half Ironman Edinburgh in July. 24 week swim, bike, run training starts 3rd week in January so I should be well above all these.

Did most of my cycling before Easter and ran up a paltry 1,316km luckily its still double my running distance (717km) so don't feel too bad hanging round here. My swimming, mercifully, hasn't been recorded!

As I type, BOFFOF is out on his bike riding the 36km that will give him 7000km for the year. So I thought I would start a stats thread.

Mine are (from Strava):
Cycle 6099km (phew, no round number chasing for me)
Run 1290km
Swim 220,762m. (That's 220km! which sounds a lot but it is over 123 sessions (just over 2 per week) at about 1800m per session which sounds less scary.)

EDIT: I know that not everyone is into their stats. This is a thread for those of us who are. :-)
