@ Darkerside. Yes I went back to the road where it fell and found the cap and an o-ring (+1 for cobbles), both items were in a gap in-between and unscathed. Sadly the lens was nowhere to be seen. So I ordered and received a replacement one from them yesterday.

Yes their support is usually excellent, although when I asked for a cost to replace batteries on my two lights they quoted me 93.50quid, which was kinda steep i thought.

Have you emailed Exposure? They're UK based and their support is excellent, so they can probably get you working again for minimal outlay...

Wife and I use an older Moon Comet (MK1). No good for mountain biking (although did navigate family half way across Colonsay on the road with one) but excellent for being seen from a very wide range of angles. If you're not using the head light for your visibility but for being seen I'd recommend something similar (flashing). Didn't have a helmet/head mount, but its such a lightweight item it was easy enough to rig something up.

I just bought a 2nd hand fenix LD20 and cable-tie it to the helmet for the winter. Does me great.
It came in a soft case which you can use to attach to the helmet (it's the front of the torch which screws off for battery changes so don't need to unmount)
If I was replacing it I'd try to get something similar but perhaps with a slightly longer battery life.

@Ed1. "Why would someone wear a helmet when skiing"

There's another thread for that discussion but it largely boils down to the fact that most people are no more considerate when skiing than they are driving and provided you are skiing within your limits there is no guarantees that the person uphill of you is.

(I occasionally wear a helmet on the slopes, generally if I am skiing alone).

My understanding is that your statement about Schumacher is incorrect, paddyirish - there was a rumour to that effect but nothing more. (But this is only something I read somewhere on the internet...)

i only wear a helmet so I can put a light on it.

Real reason harks back to MTB days - need a headlight for the night rides. Wouldn't be without one now, esp when in traffic.

Suspect if/when I come off and need the protection (i think) a helmet gives me, more than likely it'll be the side/front/back of my head that hits the ground first and takes the majority of the impact, not the top where the light is. Minimal extra risk i feel.

@IWRATS - yes, Exposure lights are great. I've had two for +10 years, this is the only ever issue and it's user error, not product fault.

*not a h**met debate starter*

Genuine question.

Given that you have decided to wear a helmet (assumedly because you feel it would protect your head in the event of a crash), is sticking something hard and knobbly on it not self-defeating?

Different sport, but AFAIK, Michael Schumacher wouldn't be in the state he's in after a low-speed crash if he hadn't been wearing a Go-pro on his helmet.

Topeak Headlux is good for being seen though? I've been considering buying one for a while. Given that I'm going to be cycling in traffic in the dark on roads that I'm not used to when the Slateford Aqueduct is closed, this may just be a good time to follow through and buy one...

I agree. You should pick another Exposure Joystick. They are fantastic lights.

Got to office this morning and realized that the front part of my exposure joystick head-light was missing – suspect it may be on the road nr Circus Place as I recall the helmet did fall out of the pram following coffee stop around there.

Trawling through old emails this morning I realise it’s almost 10 years old, so I think it’s had a good run.

Any recommendations/suggestions before I pick another one.
