If it still has the same engine then it's still the same bike! :-)

"My Brompton is turning into Trigger's Broom"

I know a Brompton that has had a new main frame and rear triangle! (Different times.)

My Brompton is turning into Trigger's Broom (or my grandfather's axe). Took it into BikeTrax saying "I think it needs a service" (the gears were misbehaving and the chain was slipping, among other things).

Quite a lot of bits needed replaced. Cost £ouch... it is 10 years old and has had a lot of abuse (and has had some bits replaced in the past). Anyway it does ride beautifully now.

One thing I did do was go from a 50 (I think he said) tooth chainring to a 44 (I think). That will make going up hills a bit easier. I could (and did) honk it up things like Dundas Street and Market Street, but I didn't always enjoy it!

You are under no obligation to go slowly up hills, just think of the extra weight as a benefit to training ;)

I took advantage of EBC's January sale to get a sit-up-and-beg bike: a 2015 Koga Prominence. Nice utility bike, has wider tyres than my road bike, so I'll use it when it's a bit frosty. More relaxed sitting position, so I'll also use it when going for longer but leisurely rides. Nice low range of gears, so if I ever get round to getting a trailer, I'll probably use this bike to pull it up the hills.

Particularly liking the dynamo lights. Still getting used to the idea of cycling slowly up hills.

Want to show off your new purchase? Made considerate upgrades or changes to your old forgotten bike? Post them here, to show off and get us going green with envy!

Me first:

2 New Cotics.

I bought a Cotic >X< 5 years ago as part of the cycle to work scheme. After 5 years of being trashed as a winter hack to work and back, I decided to spruce it up, with a new lick of paint and a clean rebuild. I didn't have the cash to stretch to a new paint job but instead patched it with a near colour or orange. But I bought new Shifters (Shimano Sora R3000 STIs), my old 105 compact crank and new bottom bracket, cables brakes and rear mech, chain cassette etc...

Then I was asked if I wanted to join a team of 3 to make a 4 for the Kielder Chiller 24 hour MTB challenge in early Feb. As my 7 year old MTB was looking tired, I decided this was a good time (as well as a tax return refund) to change the frame from Aluminium to Steel (cos steel is real right?) so looked up my fav UK frame producers, Cotic. I found a S/H Bfe in Black within my budget and once it arrived, I had a Headset fitted, bought a new (correct size BB) and used my Spec Rockhopper circa 2010 as a donor.
