also - yesterday - older guy on well kitted out bike with spokes sticker, ringing his bell every 20 seconds. no idea what or who at, but presumably pedestrians on shared path.

it was a nice bell, but honestly, it sounded like Santa Claus had arrived early.

annoying more than rubbish, but what an annoying short commute

1. parent and late primary child cycling along Polwarth gardens (yay!). Parent cycling outside child (yes, I do this too sometimes). Child in wrong gear, moving so slowly that there was a queue of 12 cars by the time I joined it... cars that overtook only did so when oncoming lane empty and went very wide (to be fair, I find they almost always do this now anyway - at least on that stretch).

2. cyclists weaving through pedestrians crossing valleyfield. I stop for the guy who is near the kerb and wave him on. another cyclist goes through while he' crossing. I point out that bed had priority. Cyclist tries to tell me the guy was on the kerb and I shouldn't have waved him on. he was on the road, and even if he wasn't he still has priority. bah!

3. tonnes of pedestrians heading onto NMW after crossing Melville drive. NMW cyclist stops to let them cross. I patiently wait for them to carry on along NMW, only for them to turn onto spur. WHY DON'T CYCLISTS SIGNAL???!! I'm not a mind-reader.

SHEESH

everyone (including me).

various bits of rubbish driving and cycling en route to George square.

but my bad bit was when a cyclist overtook me on MMW and i then noticed her back wheel was criminally flat.

mention it. (politely 'wee bit flat')

she almost came to a dead stop, pulled over into pedestrian side of path, said she didn't have a pump. i came up beside her and tried to explain she could still get to work, I just thought I should mention it. Meanwhile I must have got distracted, didn't see oncoming cyclist who whumped me in the arm. luckily I managed to swerve a little before the impact. no one came off. just left me feeling like a total idiot.

Mountain biker dude slams on brakes / skids and then charges through Mum and two primary school kids crossing Valleyfield at Leven street.

I yell "they had priority you idiot". He probably didn't hear (was already half way down the street. Then charges through pedestrians and calmer cyclist crossing Melville Drive.

Last I saw of him was jogger talking evasive action as they crossed from Lauriston Gardens onto Meadows.

Maybe he was trying t avoid me catching up with him and giving him (another) piece of my mind?

(Given speed he was going at start, I suspect he also rode through red at Kings junctions, which I had walked through and remounted).

Yes, I watched Brogue Wearing EBC Countryman and what you do is sail out into the oncoming traffic, but just before it hits you tack hARD IN THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL and apply brakes, let it sail by then take off again when the lights have actually changed. Gets you to the next set of traffic lights ahead of the plebs.

There is a breed of very posh young ladies who can survive such cycling . I have seen them on Lothian Road, all hair and upright wicker baskets breezing through lights and lanes unscathed.

I was contending with a number of drivers pulled out beyond the white lines, turning in front of me, coming at me from rhs, driving into the ASB etc
high winds too

So I was using all zen powers when a chap on old EBC Upright undertook me on lhs when lights turned green going into semple st from Evans shop side. He then powered through a red lioght into on coming traffic att eh next junction.

brogues and everything. Just having a bad day or regular offender?>

Tonight I saw a taxi driver pull a horrific move screaming through a red light and turning right straight into the path of an oncoming cyclist, he was lucky not to be hit.

Meanwhile I also watched another cyclist in front of me who was making his view of the taxi driver known rather graphically with his fingers - only problem being that you couldn't really see him or his angry gesticulations because he was cycling down a very busy road with no lights whatsoever.

The irony.
