@blueth, I think that might be another parapet enhancement. Mine is up the back of winchburgh after the road t faucheldean as you turn to the east to return to Broxburn on the road that goes down to former glenmorangie bottling plant. Yours sounds a bit west of that?

Another thing about the tunnel is that the path is narrower than the space and not always well lit. So going a bit slower is good, heading to duddingston it is downhill and you can end up going at a fiair lick. The graffiti is worth a look though they have pushed it.

Whatever it's called it is to the east of Philpstoun.

I always have to go slow through the Inmocent as tunnels seem to upset my balance. I had a bit of an awkward trip through an alpine tunnel on the motorcycle once.

@blueth is that the enhanced parapet over railway towards niddry castle? Super enhanced that one is.

What about the or slow down aspect of the innocent sign. Quite plaintive I thought, I think there is further explanation on the sign. I guess about how feckin fast some advanced cyclists take that tunnel.

The new Winchburgh bridge has a much higher parapet which only Macaskill and Co could ride over so no need for the sign.

The daftest ones are the "Cyclists and equestrians dismount" at some of the railway bridges (near Niddry Castle, Winchburgh and Philpstoun - presumably erected by Network Rail to stop people falling onto the railway lines?)I always thought it was the most stupid idea and had this vision of cyclists and horse riders walking slowly alongside their bikes or horses and holding up any traffic for even longer! The Winchburgh sign has been gone for some time now but I think the Philpstoun one may still be there(not been that way for a while), but I assume it wasn't Network Rail who removed them.

@Min

I've been looking for a text for the inside of the eaves of our porch, which I rebuilt a couple of years back. It would be the first thing you see as you step out of a morning.

I was going to go with one of the Edinburgh classics 'LUVE GOD ABUVE AL AND YI NYCHTBOUR AS YI SELF' or 'WHO THOLES OVERCOMES', but 'CYCLISTS MOUNT' is now trending.

I think we need more road users to dismount their vehicles and push them along. It would do wonders for the general fitness of the car-using population. Anyone who has pushed a car out of a muddy field knows that it engenders a sense of camaraderie and helps break the ice.

Having overcome a number of obstacles on my cycling trip this summer I encountered this notice a few kilometres from the end. I actually swithered between obeying it and carefully unscrewing it in order to put it where it belongs - in the sea.

a) Dismount and remount every 30 seconds.
b) Use the road.
c) Turn round and go home.
d) Get your angle grinder out

Has anyone ever seen a cyclist dismount at a "Cyclists Dismount" sign? Ever...? (Assuming they weren't stopping anyway).

Just the most pointless signs - no one takes any notice of them.

I think we should add some more notices to the Innocent tunnel, just for effect:

"Please notice this notice"

"This is not a sign"

Innocent tunnel has had an interesting set of posters put on the gates asking cyclists to dismount or slow down. I was in Craigmillar quite a lot yesterday so observed these posters on the way back up the hill which is kind of pointless as the speed is generated on the way down the hill. I then spotted a dude pelting down the tunnel on his bike with no hands on bars as he was busy texting. Totally not cool. A bit further up I came across a group of three lads with white umbrellas for filming, all dressed up in dicky bows. The graffiti has also increased exponentially. Go Vegan.
