It's quite a traffic pinchpoint. It's not so bad going from east to west but the other way isn't so great. At first I was lumping my bike over the footbridge but then worked out that the path between Brunstane Road and the Range was actually open if narrowed.

Going west is harder because you cannot turn right out onto Milton Rod E of the diversion route on Brunstane Drv so you are forced to walk on the pavement up to the college. If you are on the road on Duddingston Crescent, as Iain says you need to cross the traffic to get onto the south path under the A1.

I was looking at an alternative via Duddingston Road then taking the cycle path to Windsor Place rather than dealing with those terrible cobbles on Brighton Place, but I've not tried that yet.

But it sounds much worse for bus users. Though there is a train station nearby.

yup - it's on my commute - makes the morning journey annoying.

I usually sit in the right turn lane at the end of Duddingston Crescent, then jump onto the pavement once over the A1 and wiggle down the tiny space they've left. Not ideal.

I've even tried staying on the innocent, under the A1, then up between the A1 and The Range, but it doesn't really help much.

On the way home the problem is cars passing in the one-way section up to the lights - not wide enough for both. Taking primary just gets cars honking at you. The amount of road closure ie how much space they've fenced off) does seem excessive.

2
more
months
:(

I had to try and cross the one way traffic last week with my kids when we tried to get to Porty from the Innocent. Nearly got us all run over, cars were moving so fast, because, of course, there were no pedestrians or buses or anything else. really unpleasant.

It’s scandalous that vehicles were given preference, even if it is one way only, and public transport users asked to walk in the dark and cold in traffic for 15 weeks at great inconvenience.
