Well questions are -

Is a line to Granton still being considered? Is the intention to go via WGH?

IF ANY of it happens increases chance of a tram line along Roseburn Corridor…

A wee birdie tells me this option is no longer being seriously considered. Still time for it to be reconsidered, of course.

That would be normal behaviour.

They can get away with all sorts (including the need for planning permission in some cases) as they are a “statutory undertaker”.

This I think could radically impact on some traffic flows via the M90 at peak times - as @chdot has a particular awareness of this in terms of journey times and related actual/perceived issues I'm wondering if a trial might be a post COVID action to balance removal of on street parking- which by observation of its absence, seems to be filled by people outside Edinburgh driving in several (including the former CMO doing so from Fife)

I am advised though that Forth Ports might stick a spanner in the works, through their control of currently available piers & tidal berths. Any leads on that?

Instead of operating between a bus depot in Kirkcaldy and one in near Portobello the route, at half the distance, it has a railway station at one end, and a tram, plenty of buses, & bikes (plus a lot of taxis passing) at the other.

“Perhaps too late to note”

No, but doesn’t seem that CEC, FC, TS, SEStran etc. etc. are looking into this possibility.

Perhaps too late to note that Granton (the original train ferry terminus for the rail services to Fife via Burntislabd) would be just a 15 minute boat trip from access to golf courses North of the Forth, essentially cutting the journey times to Kirkcaldy from Edinburgh by 60-70%.

This can be tested by chartering the old Redjet 3 ferry - being replaced by Redjet 7 and certificated to operate in estuarial waters extending to a line between Kirkcaldy and Portobello. At speeds of c 35Kts these boats cover the 11 Nm between Southampton & Cowes in c.25 minutes. The short crossing has a rail station directly by the site at Burntisland, and will have a tram link at Granton/Newhaven

“

That decision, made by the Scottish Government reporter Andrew Fleming in August 2019, was appealed by the council in the hope of allowing the council to draw up a renewed agreement around developer contributions to force the developers to hand over more cash to pay for infrastructure connected to the development.

“
https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/politics/council/council-loses-edinburgh-marina-court-battle-and-could-be-forced-pay-hundreds-thousands-expenses-2539624

Looks like CEC took a big gamble and lost.

Now likely to be even more wary of refusing planning permissions.

Jersey-based Granton Central Development’s harbour plans include a 300-berth marina and 2000 new homes as well as a hotel and shops.

Hailed as “the focal point” of Granton’s regeneration, Edinburgh Marina will become the first new marina next to a
capital city in Europe for
decades.

Work is expected to start this year and could be completed by 2019. Plans include a new sea wall while the firm predicts 900 permanent jobs and a boost to the Capital’s economy.

Granton Harbour will be just two-and-a-half miles from the city centre and it’s hoped the tram line will eventually surge into the development

DEVELOPERS behind proposals to regenerate Granton with a marina, 2000 homes and a hotel have been told to amend the plans because of a potential conflict with the tram extension.

I would generalise that to: "I wish the press <strike>when reporting on planning matters</strike> would put the references in a footnote".

I wish the press, when reporting on planning matters, would put the references in a footnote. It makes looking for the real story much harder.

16/05618/AMC - Granton Harbour redevelopment masterplan - was approved on Thursday

There is a raft of conditions, the most notable of which is (9) the provision of a 5 metre shared use path along Lower Granton Road with pedestrian and cycle priority over side roads.

Reported in the Herald is a 'clash over tram proposals' - rather - it's a footnote saying the approved masterplan doesn't properly consider interactions with the tram route and these concerns should be addressed in future individual planning applications.

Will this masterplan be built, or forgotten to time like most of them? Just need to wait and see...
