From an FOI I came across:

The Morrison Street project has progressed well in the last quarter during which the project scope has substantially increased. The project aims have been clearly defined and aligned through close partnership between CEC and Sustrans. Temporary cycle segregation and widened footways will be implemented along the corridor and inform the design of permanent measures.

Tried Morrison Street last night. 2 lanes, awful, walked down the pavement, also awful among the stream heading to Haymarket.

So down the convoluted way to Morrison Crescent, all around the houses and against the cars blocking the route to the end of Dalry Road and head along the A8 that way until further notice.

Heading to Muireston pretty dicey now as well.

Also Ardmillan Terrace still blocked I assume, & the canal.

Not nice out west at the moment.

Morrison Street pavement is a scandal. Commuters from Haymarket to Fountainbridge/Lothian Road i.e. the financial district and major employers, spill out into the road. Try & push your cycle along it.

No excuse to not be providing for pedestrians with a road that wide. Not one.
Especially as it is the key pedestrian link from Haymarket station to the city's main business district. In a joined-up planning world (or, indeed, a world class city) one of those lanes of traffic would be permanently transformed into a nice wide pavement.

@Fountainbridge I think (hope) the Haymarket office development is going to be permeable to peds, with a walkway on a direct alignment in line with the railway tunnels (diagonal lines on your second plan) from the bottom left ped crossing to the corner of Morrison St and Morrison Link. This may explain why the taxi rank is going to take over that pavement space. Of course, that doesn't help peds who want to go to Atholl Place.

Looks like Morrison Street Pavement on the south side will be permanently turned over to a taxi ranks. The Haymarket pedestrian crossings will also be relocated.

So far no response from transport councillors or actual council that I'm aware of.

Melvin Walk - presume you mean at Fountainbridge end. They've erected scaffold over the path so it shouldn't need to close again. It was closed for concrete pumping previously.

Thanks - would be a shorter route than the detour round Upper Grove Place.

There used to be some tar in the gutter as a wee ramp in place of a dropped kerb - it's maybe gone by now though, and dropped kerbs would obviously be preferable.

Morrison Street has become a no-go zone for me. Even at lunchtime it was a hideous experience.

So - commuting from Fountainbridge - don't cycle along Fountainbridge because there are trenches dug along it in readiness for World War I.

Morrison Street - death alley.

So now it's a turn along Grove Street, Upper Grove Place and all its contours, down the 180 degree zigs & zags to Morrison Crescent, turn along U shaped route to Dalry Place (blocked by cars 3/4 of the time of the time), on to Dalry Road, then turn into Haymarket.

If they want to maintain 2 lanes of traffic they should be suspending the parking bays to do so, and have 2 narrow lanes. Signpost that HGVs and other wide vehicles are to straddle both.

I've been away for a week and on my return I discover that one of 3 lanes of traffic and the cycle Lane have been absorbed into the Haymarket "car park" building site.

I already felt vulnerable enough heading down there with cars whizzing past on both sides, but my first experience of the two lane set up yesterday was decidedly scary.

How long will this street be like this? There's no sensible alternative route for cyclists.

Apols if I've missed discussion on other thread. Not been paying attention for a couple of weeks.
