There were very few people setting off after 8pm and when I left at 8.30pm the car park was bereft of cyclists.</p> <p>The piper started at 9.00pm and was only a young lad, so it was quite a shift he put in but alas he ran out of puff before we ran out of riders.</p> <p>The local kids at the Crook were great. They'd been at the Community Quiz and then started playing rounders* in the back carpark. I was roped in to join them, but my sporting prowess was limited by hardly being able to see the ball in the gloom and being dressed as a banana...</p> <p>Once darkness decended they got glowsticked up and hit the dance floor. For cycling I highly recommend clear glasses and a buff over the nose to stop lots of those sunset flies and midges. It's very draggy and rough, without being potholed. It just gets kind of <em>wearing </em>as the hours drag on.</p> <p>Didn't realise I was leaving such a select bunch. Should qualify that by saying that last year I didn't have time to do the whole thing, so I left home after tea and rode down to nearly Moffat to meet the ride coming the other way. This meant I was on the Beeftub when there was that mega thunderstorm, and I did the distance, but I suppose shouldn't claim that I did all of RttS that year. </p>
