As of 0740 this morning they'd closed off the end of Murieston Crescent but there are no temp traffic lights on Dalry Road yet.

Murieston Terrace is open and quite predictably there were a number of wrong-way rat runners using Murieston Terrace and then Murieston Road to illegally enter the Ardmillan junction.

So watch yourselves if you are going that way.

Some thread necromancy:

Signs informed me last night that Murieston Terrace will be closed for 1 week (at the Murieston Terrace/Murieston Road junction).

However the Road Report contains the following:

"""
At Murieston Crescent	Openreach - manhole reconstruction	2-way temporary traffic lights, Murieston Crescent closed
"""

So what's actually going to happen next Monday remains to be seen. I expect Russell Road will be rendered "spicy" for cycling by frustrated drivists just as it was 8 years ago.

I'm hoping they are going to close Murieston Terrace during the works as <rule 2> drivers going the wrong way down there is very common at the best of times.

Yeah, no gap when I went past last night either. In fact the barriers had been very deliberately placed to ensure there was no squeezing round the side.
I ended up trying the temporary pedestrian crossing but gave up waiting for the green man (I'd dismounted by this point!).

Oh that left turn. I've seen several pedestrians crossing Gorgie Road on the green man nearly get taken out by inattentive (or plain ignorant) fools turning left from Ardmillan.

Road works were there this afternoon (across the Dalry Road end of Murieston Crescent) with no gap for cyclists.

With reference to the bad driving in the area, heading north down Ardmillan terrace I was able to pass quite a long queue at the red light.

When the lights went green the front car sensibly didn't move as there was no where to go. Cue lots of impatient peeping from behind.

The 2nd car in the queue then overtook the first car and made an illegal left turn into Gorgie Road.

CEC reckon the roadworks will be done with by 4th march. But they will be back today. Still plenty of equipment and pipes lying about the place.

Piskies moving the barriers? I passed by this morning at 0730 though must admit I didn't inspect the barriers that closely so it may be the Dalry Road ones didn't have a gap. Will have another look tonight.

Regarding the Dalry Road CHAOS - yes definitely! Most problems self-inflicted of course.

Surprisingly large numbers still ignoring diversion down McLeod St, driving from Russell Road up Murieston Crescent, looking confusedly at the closure then either turning round or zooming the wrong way down Murieston Terrace. For bonus points, some then try turning onto Dalry Road from Murieston Road. In 10 minutes yesterday afternoon there were 8 going the wrong way to 3 going the right way.

Clearly all cyclists in disguise...

There was a gap in both barriers last night on my way home but this morning there was no gap in the one closest to Dalry Road.

The traffic lights on Dalry Road seem to be causing lots of problems for those on four wheels!

It was there this morning. For those turning right to go up towards Harrison Park etc it's probably easier to get off and walk across the road into the coned area.

Hmm, didn't notice any gap when I went that way last night. Two rows of barriers right up to the pavement.

After I had negotiated the barriers I wasn't sure of the etiquette/law for joining Dalry road, given the stationary nose to tail traffic backed up through the single lane section.

Genuinely impressed at how quickly they responded. Allan Tinto emailed me as a follow up saying that they are now trying to address this as an issue for contractors to be aware of for future works. I expect council officers to ensure contractors to their utmost to maintain access whenever possible (most of the time).

In case these roadworks irritated anyone else, I emailed the council yesterday to ask them to maintain cycle access to/from Dalry Road (as this is a main route).

Happily this has been resolved very quickly and I am told there is now a 1m gap at the end of Murieston Crescent.
