Ha that is good, unavoidable as there was nowhere else directly outside the shops at Graysmill/ratcliffe terrace//insert any street with cycle lane.

What, park around the corner? Are you insane? Why would I park round the corner and why are those cyclists trying to get out into primary from being stuck behind these cars parked in the bike lane, they should wait until there is no traffic. Ridiculous. What you do is when the double yellow turns to single yellow then you park outside the shop, except of course at Ratcliffe when the double yellow is also there to be ignored but keep an eye out for the warden and quickly move your van.

Bit like the ASZ rules, police do not enforce (even during the crackdown, no one fined)

I don't think it is pointless to repaint the lanes BUT now and again they should have police enforcing the highway code.

Do not drive or park in a cycle lane marked by a broken white line unless it is unavoidable.

As has been said before if it wasn't for consultation obsessions this money could be spent on something meaningful like upgrading the tire through D'mains park.

But why?

It's so the council can claim they are cyclist friendly, they have x,xxx miles of cycle lanes.

Even if those cycle lanes are pointless.

Goes along same lines as "You're not a proper European City without a tram network"

@dougal that is correct. Other correct things as follows

You must not spend your budget as you must keep a bit for painting gutters at the end of the financial year

YOU MUST WAIT UNTIL MARCH TO FILL ALL THE POT HOLES

YOU MUST NOT TAKE LEAVE UNTIL THE END OF THE LEAVE YEAR

YOU MUST COMPLAIN OF UNDER FUNDING FROM A POSITION OF UNDERSPEND

Wasn't meant to be in capitals but why not. Fear of overspend is prudent but given most things are predictable...?

On the other hand Apparently been less windy so some of my colleagues have been given access to money that would not normally be there

So if they don't spend the money on pointless painted gutters this year they won't have any money left over to repaint the gutters next year?

If money is not spent budget may be cut next year, a bit of a waste generator that but many budgets seems to operate on that type of principle. Also I suppose even unuseable cycle lanes can still be reference as number of cycle lanes or the number created by an administration.

I would be quite content to see all of the advisory cycle lanes removed.

They do no good and some harm.

I saw that painting during the last couple of days.

On the plus side, some of the cycle lane is a real lane - it's to the right of the parking bays.

But that's only part of it. The rest is the usual nonsense where it's just the section of the road next to the kerb.

Which, as you said, is probably worse than nothing.

The lines for the cycle lanes on Corbiehill Road have just been repainted - I assume something similar has happened on the nearby Craigcrook Road.

But why?

I assume the council *has* to perform some kind of review of road traffic planning. So why would these lines be repainted? They are quite simply ignored, no doubt because there is no penalty as they are "advisory", and the result is cyclists weaving around parked cars when moving traffic may expect them to (somehow) remain within the painted lines.

Given the failure to keep the lanes clear, it would be better not to have the white lines.

The problem is particularly bad outside D Mains School - which is where you'd maybe think the council would hope to influence behaviour the most.
