However on wider roads, it's very hard to judge and 20mph feels very slow - eg. Arboretum Place. </p> <p>This is no surprise to traffic engineers of course. However, it emphasises that speed perception is a bit weird at the best of times in the controlled environment of a car, so expecting cyclists of all experience to know their speed to within 5mph in an even greater variety of environments is perhaps a bit unfair. Much less easy to judge your speed.
