@chdot I have tried to point out to Urban Arrow that most of their costumers aren't "bike enthusiast who are active within your local world of cycling", they are mostly families looking for a practical transport solution.

Unfortunately they wanted in...

Would you need a wider garden gate? The widest part of the bike is the handle bars, if you can get an ordinary bike through you can get an Urban Arrow through, unless there is a tight turn.

Drop kerbs are nice, but the bike can't be bumped up most kerbs in my experience. Although it can cause one side of the front mud guard to pop off, which is a minor irritation.

I'd need a wider garden gate, a dropped kerb and a neighbour who leaves a bigger gap between their car and my wife's.

I agree. Only posted here due to the fact it will be going to someone in or around our great 'cycling city'.

Kim and I did ask UA to take out the words 'cycling enthusiast' as that's far too 'anoraky'.

The barriers to use here are only:

• infrastructure
• perceived danger because people 'don't see bikes'
• getting noticed for riding the 'wrong bike'
• cost (but this one is free for a year) and after that may be offered at a discount
• having too few people doing same thing to normalise in the same way as driving. Back in NL or DK most parents will know someone with a bakfiets or Christiana

However as we live in a very Euro-centric city I expect we can build this way of using bikes along with the Circe Helios tandem (used one for sale at LB -hint). Eventually we'll have even more people on bikes able to get through the gridlocks caused by unfettered car use. Or the empty roads caused by a sensible use of transport with driveless cars etc.

Kim I know has been placing this on other sites including a family magazine.

"UA know they need to grow whole market away from bike use 'just for cyclists' to a wider market looking for easy to propel, non oily transport."

Might be better to look for someone who isn't 'us'.

Or perhaps a CCE spouse who currently is mainly a driver?

Use a UA and drive less / not at all.
It really rides like something half its weight. Built in lock and lights. Chuck stuff in box and off you go. I just took one round from shop and up to Honeycombe and back in a time that you'd expect on a lightweight solo.
Worth applying as Edinburgh is one of only three cities chosen for this. Washington was first. UA know they need to grow whole market away from bike use 'just for cyclists' to a wider market looking for easy to propel, non oily transport. Obviously an Elephant Bike could carry a smaller load more cheaply but this can carry a large load of over 70kg quickly even uphill.

The Urban Arrow Brand Ambassador will be expected to be influential and active on social media. The ideal ambassador visits bike events and is an active promotor of Urban Arrow and cargo bikes.

It is really about spreading the word, and of course be seen using the bike regularly.
