"As I passed yesterday morning, a workman was using a pneumatic drill mere inches away from me."

That's the thing -

'They' should close the path when working, 'we' would complain!

@gembo it's only *just* passable. I'd be fairly surprised if a wheelchair or wider pushchair could gain access. As I passed yesterday morning, a workman was using a pneumatic drill mere inches away from me.

Path dug up again on canal side at west end of the mono lock section, still passable at moment. Looks like spare blocks piled on that funny forecourt bit at the tenements.

Yes also the tricky join at those bumps when diverting towards the seating area. I think seems better than before though a few bumps and some puddles in slight dips.

However the likely obstacles will be the school kids when the school opens.

It's Pretty rough and unfinished though. Went over it on the way in today. Compared to the smooth ride as you turn down toward Fountain Park on the same type of stone its dire.

Not as bumpy as the setts after the lift bridge

I go up on to the canal at allan park, lot of houses going in there and like to come back off before the bumpy cobbles.

new tarmac is nice at KwikFit, i love a red chucky, could be quite slippy as brand new, but so is the new path between canal and boroughmuir. Kwik Fit's forecourt was smooth when I used it the other morning to avoid traffic at lights.

Having had a closer look when walking along the new path this afternoon, I decided that poor quality laying of the bricks is the probable cause of the undulating ride rather than the brick design. A disappointing 'upgrade' if so but I appreciate the path being open once again in any case...

@gembo yes, I like my new route!
The only downside is that by doing so I have higher chances of missing fellow opposite direction commuter since in the mornings we used meet on Edinburgh side (usually around Fountainbridge). Most of the evenings we still meet on the Livingston side (anywhere between Livingston and Ratho). But then my workplace is planning to move to 8am start, which will change things anyway.

The towpath will reopen from 5pm on Friday 9 June until after the Edinburgh Canal Festival.

The towpath was open on my way home just now. It is clearly not finished yet and will no doubt be closed again at some point, but it was nice to avoid the road works and traffic at Fountainbridge for a change. The new surface is surprisingly bumpy and that does look 'finished'...

I have a feeling this will fully blossom into a massive thread in future when kids start pushing people into the canal or not getting off the path at lunchtime "just cos"
But right now...
*expleteive deleted* WHEN are they going to take the fencing down? It is crystal clear they have finished laying the new cobbles and have even put internal fences up to stop themgoing onto the canal. I HATE having to then put up with their flippin road works delaying me even further as they seem to have a new excuse every day to block it up again, granted today it is getting a new smooth shiny surface and crossing island but come ON people. My other option is what? Going down Dalry and getting stuck at the lights that give all priority to trams? THen cycling along Shankwick? No thank you I will avoid trams for as long as I can #neversetfootononesincethedemoonPrincesStreet
