I helped a young Chinese woman and her mum carry suitcases up advocates close today. I suppose I watched them for a while as I was climbing the steps to catch up and found it comical, so that is about evens? they were very grateful as cases were heavy and the close was steep.

I led a team of 8 intrepid riders from my London office to Paris on a fundraising cycle.
I was incredibly patient and as it took a 1:1 ratio of rest stops to riding, helped them to maintain an average speed that was achievable and also meant we got time to eat in the hours of light.

Observations included
1) 2 out of 9 people had not considered the need to do any training. This didn't bode well.
2) There is no quiet route out of London during the week.
3) The national Routes in France have gotten worse since I last rode there. (people say it's because tolls have risen and therefore trucks are staying off the toll roads)
4) Entering Paris has a lot of traffic lights.

Overall I had a great time, however the challenge was very much more helping the others through it than the ride itself for me! We raised some good money for a lovely cause (Royal Voluntary Service) and they're super pleased with it. Also converted at least 1 colleague to full on bike enthusiast, and another 2 are thinking about buying road bikes.

I once lost my glasses in the house. I then put my glasses on in order to look for my glasses.

I spent the weekend tearing the house apart trying to find my prescription Oakley sunglasses. 30 years of wearing glasses and never lost a pair, so for me to lose the most expensive pair I've ever owned was more than a touch annoying - there was some choice language.

This morning I was telling one of my office colleagues when someone a few desks away piped up: "my neighbour found a set in the street the other day". To be confirmed tomorrow when she brings them in, but given location/description it's almost certainly them.

Sheer good luck on my part but a good deed from the finder.

As I walked into Mulltrees Walk this morning, I passed a couple of young ladies (sisters) with an upside down bike, lots of luggage and a pedal in one hand. Being the chivalrous sort I offered to help with the pedal.

They had been moved out of Mulltrees Walk and were by Harvey Niknaks and about to be moved on again by a window cleaner whose window they were blocking... I took them inside my office entrance out of the wind tunnel that is the west side of Mulltrees Walk.

There, it turns out their Batavus cycle was in fact disassembled and they were assembling it. Hub gears, metal guards, front hub brakes, an assortment of racks were to be attached to the bike, along with 2 wheels...

An hour later we had it assembled, though I think their bike may need a bike service, and a thorough degrease, as did my hands.

Pleasantries were exchanged, and they toddled off to collect another bike with a 10 day tour of Scotland in mind. Panniers, 60ltr rucksacks on their backs and small day sacks on the front, they went away happy.
