Not really a 'minor' mistake by the cyclist though.

From the link posted by @sallyhinch:
"[who is to blame?] A system that thinks it’s acceptable to mix human beings and enormous vehicles with very limited visibility, and hopes that nobody makes a minor mistake."

Just e-mailed Lothian Buses to say thanks to the driver who hung way back to let me pull out round the roadworks on Craigmillar Park last night.

Lovely bit of driving - anticipation and then the sending of a message by his or her road position. They could just have steamed on, maybe leading to a situation like the one in the video, but chose to be helpful and mellow.

The police motorcycling manual has a great system - I(TUG)PSGA - Information (Take Use Give) Position Speed Gears Acceleration - and it was almost like both of us were using it.

Was almost taken out today by van pulling trailer with a digger on it. Curiously just after road works forcing me to take dominant primary, except that is where the driver wanted to be so I had to brake to avoid the convoy and wait then resume. Gratifyingly due to complete traffic mayhem in tollcross today I was at my desk working whilst digger trailing man was still stuck outside the stamp shop at grove street.

I do not have a sixth sense but maybe shoulder check just about often enough.

Take care out there

Also you don't see the rider who got hit actually arrive at the junction (he's already there when the camera arrives) so you can't tell if he filtered there or if the lorry pulled up alongside.

I don't know that an ASL would have helped, although it's surprising there isn't one given how many bikes there were at that junction. It looks like the guy who got hit was *just* in front of the lorry all the way across the junction (in the driver's blind spot) and gets caught when the lorry drifts close to the curb on the bend in the road. A painted cycle lane *might* have helped, if it encouraged the driver to keep further out whether he thought there were cyclists there or not. Obviously a proper segregated track would be better. The road seems to be plenty wide.

Yeah, I was amazed a junction right by the Thames didn't have an ASL either. Though with that number of cyclists, it may have caused its own problems.

For an HGV, it was pretty sharp off the line which may have caught out some of the riders. Either towing an empty trailer or driver making a pointless point? Maybe both. Still not good riding though. Camera wearer seemed intent on aiming for the same non-existent gap as the guy who nearly ended up under the wheels.

Presume you mean this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHvIhC4rcXA
I discovered in reading a discussion about the arrows on the road are advisory unless there's also text (e.g., "TURN LEFT"). So the cyclist wasn't doing anything illegal in going straight on.

I won't be following his lead, though.

I think I know the one you mean - where there are a load of cyclists waiting at the lights, and then one gets hit after clearing the junction? The driver then gets out and gives him hell for coming up the inside ... All in a bit of road where there was no real room for both truck and bike.
