Performance probably wasn't in Uran's league, but 4th gear got me home without too many problems.

Cadence must have been through the roof though and the fast sections were tough, legs just couldn't keep up.

Don't see the appeal of single speed either!

also a bit late, but depending on the location of the break, I have successfully bodged repairs using an terminal block connector or two on section of exposed cable, with the plastic sheathing cut out.... I don't think I'd risk that for a brake cable though...

"one of the various mobile mechanics in Edinburgh are super useful"

Good point.

I'm aware that there have been several in recent years, I suspect it's quite a hard way to make a living.

I believe one gave up and opened a shop...

a bit late now I suspect, but for situations like this, one of the various mobile mechanics in Edinburgh are super useful.

I use (can recommend) Graham @ All Bikes 07743 494 387 / info@allbikes-edinburgh.com

always worth sticking in your mobile just in case ...

If at/near lever then pull cable, change gear and (try to) tie to frame.

Thanks!

Limit screw only moved it one cog.

Managed to get it to 4th largest by pulling cable and securing it under my light bracket on the seat post. Hopefully it doesn't ping on my way home.

"can I bodge it into an easier gear using the end stop screws or something"

Screw in top (usually - should have an H next to it) screw, that should move rear mech over a couple of cogs.

No only did the weather conspire to make it a miserable ride in today, but my rear gear cable snapped half way to work.

Does anyone know of a bike shop near Crewe Toll that could replace it either lunch time or after work?

Failing that, can I bodge it into an easier gear using the end stop screws or something?
