I used to commute through Dumbiedykes, and rather than tackle the steepest lower bit of Braidwood Gate (map) I went via the far gentler Viewcraig Gardens route. That gives you a trip up/down Holyrood Road though so you might prefer the steep hill :-)

This is about residents wanting a bus service to the Southside ('not economic') so might have some useful 'desire line' data -

"

The Braidwood Centre in Dumbiedykes has carried out a survey of resident’s transport needs, which yielded comprehensive and detailed information, broken down by age group, on the reasons for and frequency of travel for residents from Dumbiedykes to the Southside. The survey results, which appear as Appendix 1 to this report, have been made available to the Council, and the information gained will be taken into account fully in developing service options

Interesting! Thank you. I will try to harass some people who make decisions.

Funnily enough, the steps never occurred to me to be such a problem but now you've all mentioned it ...

Also, HAHA I do not cycle up the hill, yet. My wee leeegs >_<

Yes, the two steps at the bottom, and a couple of dropped kerbs, are on the active travel team's "To be investigated" list. Touch wood...

"so I just wondered if this has been something anyone has tried to get sorted before or if there is some kind of procedure I should know about?"

I think it's been mentioned on here before, but not aware of any 'campaign'.

Years ago there was a consultant's plan for a zigzag path, but nothing happened.

This wasn't even primarily about cycling - that hill is a real barrier to people with mobility problems or buggies.

Worth contacting local councillors and Transport Committee members.

"They really need to remove those 2 steps at the bottom though"

Think CEC is the case (finally).

Welcome

I have used that path. Usually with a child on board, as it's safer than the main roads.

It's a tough climb alright.

They really need to remove those 2 steps at the bottom though

I commute through HR Park every day and go up through Dumbiedykes past the back of the new bike park. The state of the hill at the very bottom of Brown St is frustratingly terrible considering the paths within view are beautiful and lovely.

If you've been down there you'll know it's super steep but plenty of cyclists use this path; I have been known to do some pretty cool skids when I get half way down to slow my speed enough for going past pedestrians or other cyclists on the second half of the hill. In the rain it can be pretty terrifying with brakes on full pelt and still hopping and skidding about (I know I should just walk down but I am stubborn).

I've not long joined so I just wondered if this has been something anyone has tried to get sorted before or if there is some kind of procedure I should know about?

Sidenote: just came over here after trying to NOT comment on EEN posts about cycling. AAA THE RAGE!!

Ta :)
