Didn't see a thread for this year, so might as well just bump this one (despite the date in the subject being wrong).

Sunday 22nd September this year - anyone here going along for a pootle? I've already registered (Though if it's anything like previous years, registering is completely pointless):

Is there another thread on this...?

I'm thinking of going with two seat recliner as entertainment.

Just read though in our resident blurb...

"...a free mass participation bicycle ride for children, young people and families, aimed at giving participants and enjoyable and safe city-centre cycling experience in a traffic free environment. It's a great day out for families off and on the bike."

So Irene and I shouldn't really go then? What about older residents?

EDIT: It helps if I reply to the right thread, derp.

( also heard today that they're also riding in the leadout of the riders, which micro is EXTREMELY happy about)

If you sign up you get a free bib (hooray, more hi-viz), but more importantly you get the opportunity to be marketed at. I can't see anything on the website that says you have to register, and have no plans to.

I plan to bring the mini- and micro-Greenroofers along. Maybe we could form a peleton with @twinspark and more of the Morningside massive.

There is a need to get as many people as possible to take advantage of this opportunity to ride on closed roads in the City Centre, then get everyone who does to ask the Council to close the roads again at least on day a month...

The time table I have been give for the City Ride "village" on the Meadows goes like this

- Site (Meadows near to Marchmont Road) opens 6am - set up anytime from then onwards
- All vehicles to be away by 9.30am
- Village opens to public at 10am
- The set-up is that stall holders will bring own gazebos, which should be 3m x 3m
- Sales are not permitted in the event village (where the stalls will be)
- Roads re-open at 3pm

Also that:

The route begins at the family focused event hub in the Meadows, and heads east along Melville Drive, turning left along Buccleuch Street, heading up George IV Bridge for the Royal Mile, with a brief detour up and down Chambers Street. After a short climb up the High Street, cyclists will be rewarded for their efforts with a comfortable downhill section on Johnston Terrace, heading back to the Meadows via Lady Lawson Street and Melville Drive.

I signed up assuming it would probably be a big compromise but because it might get the boy a chance to scoot about in safety somewhere other than the park.

I'm not convinced by the choice of route, it seems to do a lot on the road that can already be done on paths!

But I'm not complaining. Much.
