@IWRATS, was all fairly calm, the tAxi driver was not aggressive he just kept indicating he was turning right illegally once I had vacated the space because there was no taxi pictured in the no motorised vehicles sign.

London cab but silver not black.

Well done, @gembo. Some members of the taxi-driving community are nice people, others are mobbed-up psychos. Stay safe out there.

They could do with No Entry painted on the road too

The saving on the second smaller sign and not painting the road has clearly caused confusion.

On principle I will generally stop and tell drivers but importantly it is a very narrow road and dangerous for cars to go both ways and indeed causing a roadblock

Surely this should be 'no entry' with a 'except cyclists' plate underneath? See page 4 of this.

That's the normal way to accomplish such things if motorised traffic is allowed on the road I think.

It's this you need to wade through if you want the rules - but it's a long read.

Drivers do try to go down the street quite often coming up the Royal mile from the palace It would maybe be better to have a no entry sign on the Holyrood Palace side of the road. Harder for drivers to turn left down it if heading down the Royal mile as the cycle lane is created by a bollard.

These drivers are normally tourists or have not seen the sign. When you point out the sign they move on but this taxi driver declined to move, the street is too narrow for anything but one motorised vehicle and one Bicyle.

I remember reading that "no motor vehicle" signs are not to be used for contra-flow areas last time this subject came up

How can a street be "no motor vehicles" in just one direction after all?

Going home tonight about 6pm we prevented a taxi from turning down new street. That is only up hill for motor vehicles.

The driver kept indicating and saying on you go but I continued to stand my ground. The sign is prohibitive white circle with red border with the motorbike flying over the car. Now it does not have a taxi on it and this is why the driver felt he could drive down it but he can't. The reason it is not No Entry is because bikes can go down.

Slightly worrying that a taxi driver would not know this?

The two cyclists who were with me blocking his path decided to go home but I tarried a little until he went up the street to where he could turn right at Cranston St.

A shopkeeper came out of his shop and also told him to drive on. The car behind him was also getting impatient. So finally he followed the Highway Code (just some rough guidelines)
