Hm, doesn't sound good. I'd maybe look at a new rim if it were me.

The marathon seems good so far rides more smoothly with a wide 35 700. The marathon was also very easy to fit could almost do it by hand.

I noticed when changing the tyre a sharp edge on the wheel rims where the wheel half joined, looked like a manufacturing fault (sputnik heavy duty rims), a deeper sharp edge that could cut hand not scuffs from pushing bike.
I think this is what caused the flat after wore through the tyre. How should I get ride of the sharp edge sandpaper? When a kid used to have power tools grinder power sander and work on cars don't have any now. I wonder if should take to a shop to get done or just use some black sandpaper.

I got my bike overhauled before left my bottom bracket only 5 months old from decatherlon back wheel and hub newish this year. Tyre march. I had spoke 're tensioner before went. Tyre and bottom bracket may have been defective or my cycling on some gravel roads lots of climbing . I got marathon tyre 35 so larger looks stronger than the Conti contact sport and wider.

If you have no choice but to try and roll something with no inflated tube, try stuffing it temporarily with grass, straw, or socks - anything to keep the rim from getting dented against the ground.

I am in luss now waiting on a bus to get another bus or train to Dumbarton. Next trip may take a folding tyre as a spare. I wonder if tyre failed because my rear wheel from a tandem a bike wider than the 32 700 orginal wheel may get a wider tyre. It may be because bottom bracket or bearing has been failing for last 50 miles lots of vibration on wheel

I have a vague memory of someone suggesting tying the burst inner tube round the rim and tyre in that situation. A bit link Noah the boa in Richard Scarry:

It depends on having enough tyre clearance, will block rim brakes and be slow and bumpy to ride but might just get you to where you are able to obtain a new tyre faster than walking/waiting for a bus.

Option 1. Use bigger inner tube patches to mend tyre from inside - although 7 inches probably far too much. Won't get you far, but it does work for a while. (Don't pump the tyre up more than absolutely required to cycle).

Option 2. Use a section of toothpaste tube (as LivD suggests) to support the tyre split from the inside. Haven't ever done this, but have carried such a section since having to use Option 1 in the middle of nowhere.

Option 3. Sew the tyre back together (i.e. needle and thread). This is meant to work well when combined with the toothpaste tube. Again, not tested, but linen thread and a needle are a very tiny thing to carry so I always have them with me.

I have used a 500ml plastic water bottle. Cut a piece off and put it inside the tyre to stop the innertube from popping out of the tyre. I managed to ride 20 miles XC before reaching safety. I am sure the repair would have lasted much longer if needed.

Piece of toothpaste tube is always useful for tyre patching but that sounds like a split too far.

7 inches a bit too much to fix with a tyre boot right enough. If you have any zip ties you can try keeping the tyre on with that? If rim brakes don't try and brake on that wheel...

Yeah, slap an off cut of the old tube over the inside of the split. If you have some gaffer tape or similar stick the tube down to the inside to stop it shifting.

Best thing for a "tyre boot" is an off cut of an old tyre: when you get home turn your split tyre into tyre boots for future use...
