Wasn't it a bit of a struggle even to approve that? I remember it being a big thing when they went in, and there's barely any anyway. When is the Princes Street one going in?!

My sister used to be convinced that every bus had one on it - a clever idea with the desirable property of punishing you in almost perfect proportion to the harm caused.

As far as I'm aware, Scotland still hasn't legislated for "speed camera"-style parking tickets issued after the time of the offence. They do it in parts of England though.

A citizen's arrest for bad parking seems a bit harsh.

I went past the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Centre just now and there was a faux-by-four parked square in front, all the wheels on the pavement. Not a warden to be seen.

Now I know we have Uber eyes on this forum so here's an idea;

Why don't Uber develop a simple phone app that recognises registration plates, times and locations and works out if a vehicle is allowed to park there from two images five minutes apart?

If a ticket is issued on the basis of the data and upheld the phone owner gets the commission with a small kickback to Uber.

That way all students become traffic wardens and the city is immediately purged of this level of idiocy. The main objection I can see to this scheme is that it would actually work. Commission-hungry students wouldn't stand for the informal arrangements that clearly exist here and there in this fine city.
