Greener Leith organises a trailer building party many moons back (about 7 years ago). They had plans for a build-your-own design which was mainly from wood, all you required was a hitch device and a wheelset.

http://greenerleith.org.uk/blog/fun-with-bike-trailers-443

You could get in touch with Ally Tibbit, he might have plans or something from the event that you could use to build cheap trailer bases.

Hello and welcome Mo,

this sounds like a brilliant project. I don't personally have any old trailers I'm afraid, but others might know of a source - I guess the carry freedom would be perfect but perhaps a bit pricey.

Hello everyone!

I am new to this forum, and would like to introduce myself and a new community project.

I am an artist working in community projects across Edinburgh, together with the Edinburgh Tool Library I have started Fork In The Road; an open source food and bikes project. The design works as a pair, with two modular units containing everything required for a working kitchen space which are towed on trailers behind bikes.

The aim is to bring cooking facilities into different community spaces, encouraging the sharing of food and the exchanging of skills. Specifically we have the growing spaces in mind, but the Tool Library has lots of contacts with many communities across Edinburgh so there really is no limit to their use.

At the moment we have had a couple of community engagement co-design events and finished the second iteration of the design. The units are being built at the moment, hopefully ready to roll in November!

Now I am looking to spread the word for the project and to speak to members of the cycling community in terms of advice, interest and tips for cycling with a trailer in tow in Edinburgh!

I am also specifically looking for bike trailers which are gathering dust, need a fixing up or are for sale! As we currently have one and will be looking to get at least one more !!

I will be posting for our next event and in the mean time I'd love to hear from anyone who is interested or has any questions.

Best,

Mo
