Yes, I got a text from a friend asking if that was me... not looking as elegant as the leaders... you did actually see Mr fimm as well but only briefly.

...and did we see someone running on the hill in a red top who wasn't him but is well-known to him :-)

I was hugely envious of the elegance of the leading woman and the leading man as they were on the final stage. She, in particular was able to hold a conversation after 20+ miles on the hill, and they both had this supremely lovely running style that just looked effortless. Seeing them in action I can understand how humans were evolved to run, it's just that the genes seem to have completely missed me out.

If I use a camera whilst skiing then chest mount is my favourite option. It gives some context to the picture (mostly arms not chin) while a helmet mount only provides the view.

Aaages ago Wilmington's Cow experimented with a camera mounted on his cross-chest bag-strap, which resulted in a huge chin bobbing around in the top-right of the frame.

This Sunday's programme also covers the Lairig Ghru hill race which might feature an interview with me & Mr fimm, and will hopefully feature some footage that Mr fimm "shot" - he carried the Adventure Show's GoPro (on a chest harness).

Community Cafe in Eskdalemuir: Was there 3 weeks ago, cheese toastie @ 5 quid felt steep.

Samye Ling Monastery: very good, if disorganised.

A7 - no need to go on it at all. Suggest via Lockerbie (B723) not Langholm.

Gordon Arms always a good bet for lunch. Note the Glen Cafe @ St Mary's Loch (A708) now closed for the year, if you chose to go via Moffat.

@unhurt Yes, it's a top name.

The challenge at Eskdalemuir is to eat a full amir lunch: beans on toast, a slice of apple pie the size of a small outhouse and a large tea and still make it over the hill to Ettrick.

The community cafe in Eskdalemuir is great. There is also the Buddhist monastery, though I haven't been there in years. I'd try to minimise time on the A7.

The Long Dark Teatime Audax approaches Eskdalemuir via Waterbeck and Castle O'er Forest instead of Boreland and the awful series of climbs between there and Eskdalemuir. I've ridden both in the last year and I think Castle O'er Forest is not to be missed if you are in that area.

I did roughly this almost exactly 12 months ago. We went from Annan, so pretty close to Carlisle. Generally it was glorious and South to North is def the right way - I go Ed -> Moffat quite often and curse the dratted prevailing wind every time

Our route is below. Its def doable in 1 day and having since done most of the roads round there now, I don't think I would change the route - although you'd avoid the detour into Peebles.

Newcastleton seems unnecessarily too far East, although it does look very remote, which always appeals to me.

I'd def be up for it again.

Thinking of riding this: Has anyone done a route up through Newcastleton then sort of Hawick Selkirk Innerleithen etc. Would that be a decent route? Looks ok on the map.
