People who live round Gorgie or Easter Road have to put up with this crap all the time (also see threads passim re: pavement parking at the new developments near Lochend Park).

Of course, this is "normal" for these areas. Having seen the behaviour of fans in and around pubs near Hampden on cup final day a few times I wouldn't really wish it on anywhere else...

I cycled to the game today as I reckoned the bus would take ages as I knew the Rangers fans buses would be parked in Corstorphine.

It was a good move although cycling through masses of Rangers fans walking on the road made it a bit interesting. Plenty of bell-ringing and I was home in less than 20 mins. If only the game had went as well!

@gembo - that cut through has gone. The nearest thing to a shortcut via Gogie is Wheatfield Street and through Saiinsbury's car park.

Rugby fans all have their well worn routes to murrayfield. For instance used to be you could walk from Gorgie, through the distillery and out at western approach road. Not sure if that is still a route.

Or if driving often up very early and parked at murrayfield then off to the drinking. Hospitality tents etc.

There isn't so much of this at football stadia. Today's match between hope arts and rangers at 35,000 is big for hearts and largely the difference between home game at tynecastle beng huge number of away supporters. The use of coaches to get to football games is incredibly commonplace. They do all tend to arrive just before the game. So whilst the build u to rugby at murrayfield is incremental. The football crowd all arrive in a oner. Hence the chaos.

I was heading West on the M8 this morning and the Eastbound carriage way was a near constant stream of coaches heading for Murrayfield.

Whilst coaches are obviously better than cars, they still need somewhere to offload and park. Made me wonder why they didn't stop at Ingliston and all get the tram in

Scrub the above - I was thinking of the foreign fans rather than the Scottish fans. Dunno is the answer.

@ Stickman - a lot of the rugby matches at Murrayfield are internationals, so fans are more likely to be staying in Edinburgh & catching the tram/walking.

There was TRAFFIC CHAOS in west Edinburgh today due to the Hearts-Rangers game at Murrayfield, and that was with only a crowd of 35,000.

I don't think it's as bad when the rugby is on. Maybe rugby fans are more likely to arrive by train?

What will the Murrayfield CC make of this?

https://stv.tv/news/scotland/1400968-murrayfield-bids-to-become-new-home-of-scottish-football/

"The Scottish Rugby Union has formally pitched Murrayfield as an alternative venue to Hampden.

The SRU expects to hear in December whether it has been successful in persuading the Scottish Football Association to use the Edinburgh stadium.

The SFA's lease at Hampden expires in 2020 and the governing body has previously admitted it is exploring several options to host Scottish internationals and major domestic cup games."
