I write in praise of the gentleman's half hose from marks and Spencer. Dark blue, dark gray or black. Quite big for a sock but then socks are small things.

Excellent for tucking your trousers in

In Argentina they have milanesa a la napolitana, which is a little confusing to Italians (despite the the majority of the population having Italian roots)

Apparently the "a la napolitana" bit refers to "it was first made and sold in Restaurante Napoli owned by Jorge La Grotta in Argentina in the 1940s". Or so Wikipedia says.

fish "alla Milanese" means "fish in breadcrumbs". Somewhat disappointing if you are expecting a new and exotic experience...

Milanese should be fried in clarified butter and not oil, then finished with butter and/or a squeeze of lemon.

I'll bet the contents of the famous "10p Mixture" we used to get from Phillips' Ice Cream van in Dalkeith in the 70s wouldn't amount to much these days.

It provided an evening's eating / chewing / sooking for a young lad.

"In the very olden days a Macowans penny chew had to be cracked on the kerb and half given to your pal. Though mouths were smaller and pavements softer in the seventies"

Ah, yes McCowans Highland Toffee. Almost guaranteed to pull several fillings out. Also risked breaking a tooth if one attempted to "chew" on a cold day / before warming said toffee in mouth prior to mastication.

Twenty "new pence" could get you one of the above, a pack of sweet cigarettes (or some shredded coconut tobacco), and a Marvel comic ( Doctor Strange, Fantastic Four or The Incredible Hulk in order of preference), with maybe some "new pence" to spare, maybe in half penny coins: felt like you had more left over. Of course you could blow (literally) the rest on some Bazooka Joe bubble gum (with free mini-comic inside) or maybe a Sherbet Fountain/Dip Dab.

I often check when ordering Ginger beer that they are serving a soft drink not a mixer. When I order a drink I want more than 75ml or it.

If your product comes in a box there is no need for it to become smaller when shrinkflated. Simply reshape it to continue fitting in the same box while being considerably less satisfying. Just ask Toblerone (or is that Tobler-two thirds!).
