The Electric Bridge is still owned by Scottish Power I believe who aren't keen to spend more than the bare minimum (or preferably nothing at all) on maintenance. There was a proposal last year to demolish it to help with flood prevention.

The barriers on the footbridge make it more difficult than it should be to cycle across. I don't imagine it's much fun for disabled pedestrians or wheelchair users either.

Some collapsible bollards on the electric bridge seems like a cheap move which would remove a lot of conflict from the footbridge.

Thanks for that ch. Frenchy I'm not aware that anything more is proposed for the bridge than to open it up for race days. It would be difficult to make a case for pedestrian and cycle use when there's a footbridge alongside it.

Has there ever been a move to permanently open the Electric Bridge to cyclists/pedestrians, by installing collapsible bollards instead of gates?

Not new, but don’t think it has been on here before. (Mentions walking and cycling a few times.)
