From the press release drivers average gap they left us was 179 cm in 1979 and down a massive 61cm to 118 cm in 201? When this study was done. If average is 118 then the differences regardless of what you wear are approx 1-2cm which I guess is is why Ian walker gave up on the wigs and advocates for seg infra.?

My POLITE tabard guy was also confidently taking primary. I think from our chat becaus if the tabard.

I thought the study wasn't good enough to show much difference, but it suggested Polite had worst effect with 2.1% of passes within 0.5m and Police had best with 0.5%. I suspected many drivers wouldn't notice the difference in the lettering, or see the words "camera cyclist" below "Police". A better study could show if that one letter difference did cause (or at least correlate to) such different driver behaviour.
Are the 1-2% of very close passes from the same 1-2% of drivers, or is there a much larger number of drivers who do this some of the time? A bigger and better study might tell.

Yes, I have stopped using my POLITE tabard a long time ago for that reason. The kids still love it when they want to dress up as polices though

Actual paper here - http://opus.bath.ac.uk/37890/1/Walker_2013.pdf

If you read the discussion, the 'polite' tabard led to the most aggressive passes, the 'police' one the most respectful, but whatever you wore some drivers would pass you within 50cm 1-2% of the time

I don't think it was the "Polite" tabard that "worked". I think it was the one that said "Police officer video recording" or something like that.
I think enough people have seen the "Polite" tabard to know it is "fake".

(Someone needs to Google the actual study...)

That's right stilt skin the only difference was when the cyclist wore a tabard saying SLOW DOWN POLITE, PASS WIDE, or some such, I.e. It looked like there was a police officer enforcing the law. Ian Walker therefore argued that only segregated infra made any difference, he previously had blonde wigs etc.

This was the one finding of statistical significance in the big Ian Walker passing distance influenced by appearance of cyclist study.
Errr... I’m not sure that is true. I think his study found that it did not matter what you wore, passing distance remained the same. (Perhaps there was a small difference when the ‘police’ tabard was worn. Can’t remember exactly)

A woman that rides the A71 from kirknewton used to wear one I tail gated her for a few miles on my cycle home one day and noticed the wider passes. Think they are marketed for horse riding seen many people on horses wearing them

Was cycling behind chap today around shandon. He was wearing fake police tabard. Two workie vans and a civilian motor were driven by their drivers giving him a very wide berth.

Confirmation bias of course. We chatted at ardmillan junction and he confirmed our confirmation bias that the bib works.
