I know that they're still looking for volunteers to help out with this event. I think they'll pay costs and give food and drink and the like.....

I suppose Id better do some group riding first

I don't know if it's totally necessary. My first ever group riding was a sportive. Knowing this fact, I just kept my distance, didn't do anything stupid or unpredictable and acted friendly and cheerful. Worked for me!

Ooh - this one looks quite nice. I'll confirm nearer the time, but if I'm in for it I can certainly take a couple more folk down.

Kinross Black: I had a ride round some of the route a few weeks back and I reckon there are a few dodgy descents. Loose gravel, bad road surface and streaming water are bad enough obstacles when riding solo, could be treacherous in a group. After some reflection, I decided to give it a miss.

Skye Mor: My 2nd ever sportive. Fantastic route, but killed me with a strong headwind. I was convinced the advertised ascent was a mistake until I was about half way round. The best bit was Sligachan back to Portree as the road had just been resurfaced a few weeks earlier and it was super fast!

kaputnik - I've been waiting all day to get to my Cycling Plus which dropped through the letter-box this morning. I'm going to miss out the Trossachs Ton this year and ride the Lepra Edinburgh St Andrews as I can visit my folks in Crail afterwards hopefully. I've already got my name down for the black Kinross Sportive route and the Cross Border in May. Turbo sessions await.

Fred Whitton is a mental ride though. 33% is not unusual on some of those hills. My aim is to gradually tick them off one at a time, then maybe take a view on the Four Seasons version.

I've recalled that I've a friend and some friends-of-friends down in D&G. They are more MTB-ists but have road bikes so I might try and convince them to do it and steal lifts off of them also.

I was reading about the Fred Whitton sportive in CyclingPlus over lunch. Up to that point I had been impressed with my time and climb over the X-border 100, this really put things into perspective.

Slightly OT, but they were trying out electric bikes on it. They both failed miserably in the rain and were whupped by a road bike.

"

Hi,

The British Heart Foundation Scotland has launched the first of its new Heartride series of Scottish cycling events, HEARTRIDE 60/30/15! Taking place on the 26th of March it is the must do cycling event of 2011!

The event has 3 on road and 2 off road options and is set in the spectacular area of Galloway, fantastic location for a sportive and family event. There is a 60 mile sportive, a 30 mile demi and a 15 miler for families and beginners. The 2 off road options are at the fantastic 7 stanes site at Kirroughtree 2 min from the on road option start so the whole family have a choice of events!

With a BHF Campsite and outdoor ceilidh Heartride makes a great weekend away and the area has a wealth leisure and entertainment as well as great towns, sites and days out so why not keep up with your winter training and make it a weekend away in the New year!

The website is http://www.bhf.org.uk/heartride for more info or registration. Alternatively you can call 0808 1002109. It will shortly go live on Entry Central too. For a sneak preview check out the video on you tube... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8iYL-zeG0c

I would greatly appreciate it if you could pass this around the staff, customers and any other friends family and places of work that you think might be interested.

I have attached an e-poster that can be posted on forums, passed around contacts, used on facebook, printed and displayed and anything else you like!

I greatly appreciate you taking the time to pass this on, it is of great value to the work of BHF Scotland.

I hope to see you there on the day!
