Using the timeline function on that Streetview, in 2009 there is a clear no cycling sign on the path. It disappears in the subsequent year's shots. So unless it's forbidden, and given the finger sign, circumstantial evidence points to cycling being allowed there.

And yeah, that junction should be simplified as they did at the bottom of Marchmont Road.

Best I can do is point out that this sign exists.

But it’s not a pavement so cycling is legal under Access legislation.

It only gets complicated in The Meadows where a few paths are “roads” and cycling is outlawed.

(I think.)

I'm not sure that it's technically a cyclepath East of Argyle Pl on SMW?

I'm now hoping that someone is going to come along and prove me wrong...

A lot of that junction could be cleaned up by just removing the left filter for motors out of Argyle Place but it was built when traffic flow was king, whereas now, oh....

It's certainly a peculiar junction, so say the least, isn't it? It's never been obvious to me, anyway, why cyclists on South Meadow Walk shouldn't be able to follow a straight line.

Apologies to the guy o the orange recumbent trying to go from MMW to Argyle place this evening, as I shepherded 3 kids from the eastern segment of SMW to the West.

Ironic really as I wrote this, this morning:

https://deceasedcanine.blogspot.co.uk/2018/04/why-are-we-still-building-infra-that.html
