I recommend that we all re-read our copies of Max Brooks Zombie Survival Guide (heartily recommended, alongside World War Z, the companion piece, but don't waste time on the film)

@spytfyre 'a living zombie'?! I'm assuming a typo of livid?

Chainsaw on one end bill on the other for when the fuel runs out or the chain inevitably snaps on spinal column. Remember to wear face mask for any splash.
In thinking on it some clever quick release for the bill end in case it gets stuck too that way you are left with a decent staff at least.
I really had too much fun with my re-enactment days

EDIT: @Westfield14 nah too much chance of it getting stuck then you have a living zombie flailing at the end of a not very long stick like an angry ice lolly with teeth

I figure your principal zombie weapon should be a bill or similar cutting pole-arm. The specifics of what it takes to kill a zombie depend on the source material but there's never a situation where being really close is the answer to your problem! The cyclist in the video would have to be within punching distance of a zombie which to my mind is too close for comfort. Have we managed thread drift yet?

Given that most zombie settings are destroy/damage the brain, I've always thought a garden fork would be your best bet - a bit of longer ranged jabbing seems far more effective!

@spytfyre, dougal If it's just severing the spine rather than removing the head then a machete or a big cleaver might work, working from the back, but you might have to get a bit close; likewise with a sickle. A scythe would give a bit more reach but would need a bit more space, would be tiring to wield and you'd need more time to set up a second swipe if the first missed. Perhaps teams of two, one with a big version of those forked stick/clamp things you use for snakes/crocodilians and the other with some sort of blade?

@Dougal - indeed a "remove the head" scenario is not great you want a longer reach either a baseball bat or staff/polearm as they don't run out of ammunition

I feel like there might be a lot more to the story and I'd not be surprised if driver and cyclist are known to each other. The way the car pulled out initially looked panicked. Slightly longer vid here: https://metro.co.uk/2018/06/01/huge-knife-cyclist-used-attack-car-reveals-scale-londons-knife-problem-7596459/

I'm curious how much evidence there is that strong retaliatory measures have any long-term effects on driver behaviour. Will this 19-year-old who drove out into traffic without looking be really really careful about looking first in future? I somehow doubt it.

EDIT: Also LOL at "zombie killer" - do these people know nothing? Clearly a melee weapon like that is not what you want to fight the undead. This is mall ninja nonsense.
