The specifics of what it takes to kill a zombie depend on the source material but there's never a situation where <em>being really close</em> is the answer to your problem! The cyclist in the video would have to be within punching distance of a zombie which to my mind is too close for comfort. A scythe would give a bit more reach but would need a bit more space, would be tiring to wield and you'd need more time to set up a second swipe if the first missed.
