@NiallA thanks, that seems quite plausible especially given the speed with which they patched up the last section and moved out.

Jdanielp, I tried to check this via Twitter on Thursday/ Friday but haven’t had an answer. I think I saw elsewhere that there’s due to be a further excavation on the other side of the path in a couple of months, so I’m hoping this is a temporary patch until they have finished completely.

The MMW cycle lane has reopened just in time for the Festival crowds to make it all but unrideable, especially now that several of the bicycle symbols are gone. Will the surface be reinstated properly once the festival season is done with?

More large long pipes arrived by HGV today. Does that mean they plan to continue working and the "Festival Roadworks Embargo" doesn't apply to pedestrians & cyclists?

Improvements have been made to at least parts of the fencing at the west end of NMW. Could still be much better, though.

Yes, they will treat the bicycles the same as cars so if there is no heavy vehicle movement, the road will be clear for you to cycle on.

@chdot thank you for Tweeting. I don't remember it having been quite this bad here in previous years. I do remember there being issues with sightlines at the MMW/George Square junction in the past but obviously there are rather more fundamental issues in terms of access to that area just now.

Sorry you experienced this. The traffic management plans are put in place by the CEC, University & Festival tenants during the build period expressly to keep people safe. This part of the road isn't closed but under a stop/start management system for cars & cycles.Hope this helps

From discussions with the council around POP time. That whole bit is technically privately owned, but they still need permits (such as TROs) to dig up and close a through road.

Since access to George square via MMW is complicated right now (building works), I've been going up and down the west side of george square. Only to be told yesterday that it was closed to cyclists because of the 'heavy vehicles'.

unimpressed.

pretty sure it is a public road and they don't have a TRO.

and they can't continue to let cars through but require cyclists to dismount.

also the usual accessibility issues.

but some poorly paid folk have been given hiviz and told to enforce it.

bah.
