I have a Tortec Transalp Disc rear rack on one bike. I like the way the load bed is a bit longer than the Blackburn EX-1 rack on my recumbent bike, and like most disc-ready racks it fits around the brake caliper by being wider, and having welded-on standoffs.

Having said that, in order to adapt my Blackburn when I switched from V brakes to discs, I just made up some adaptor plates:

My rack was £20 in Decathlon, suitable for disc brakes due to built out bit as noted above.

I had to get a disc specific rack for my CDF, it has a built out "bit" at the bottom of the rack where it bolts to the drop out. Gives the same result as Snowy's solution but the rack is built a little wider and the bit washer is part of the rack.

It was pretty cheap <£20 I'm sure.

Thanks guys, Tis is for my Cotic >X<. It only has one eyelet for the mudguard, and the Tubus Disco I bought originally secured to the sqewer, which is a PITA when having to remove the read wheel.

The Disco was £80 at the time so I assumed Racks were all ridiculously expensive! These are good food for though. Cheers.

Not always...my Boardman MTB has the calipers mounted in the angle between the seat stay and the chain stay, and thus normal racks fit fine.

On an older Cannondale Trail, the caliper is behind the seat stay and would foul the rack, so I moved the rack arm out a bit using a longer bolt and a 12mm-long nylon washer...tested under heavy loads, works fine. Think Cannondale generally now put the caliper between the stays like the Boardman. [Edit: if using longer bolts, I'd recommend a 12.9 high tensile bolt rather than something indeterminate.]

Bottom line - depends on the bike.

Will an ordinary rack run foul of the disc brake?
I just bought one of these heavyweights that have an arc around the disc area.

Hello.

Does anyone have a rear rack they may wish to sell? Maybe it has sat in your garage for a while? Unused?

If so, please get in touch. I'm keen to get one on my Cotic Disc braked bike.

Kind regards, Dave C
