We have VW Passat ate got Indespension on London Road to supply and Fit. It was around £300 I think. Then there are a range of racks. We have a 2 bike rack Thule:

https://www.tweekscycles.com/uk/thule-972-hangon-3-bike-cycle-carrier-madth9720/?istCompanyId=56f52ebf-49f3-492a-9cbb-cb6ab0fc1bf0&istItemId=-xrpwrxxmwa&istBid=t&gclid=Cj0KCQjwv-DaBRCcARIsAI9sba9nC-Quvv7vMEIdQ7YBWTdz6pmTxwvxQtVLXpAQ4T-nMawUVaKZCIcaAgIuEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds/

Folds for easy storage.

We also have a larger 4 bike tipping flatbed rack for holidays when we want to get in the boot without removing bikes.

I know paying for a towbar is not exactly cheap, but it does give you a better option for racks, which don't hang off your car.

Also having a tow bar means we can pop a light board on the rear of the bikes so lights and number plate obsquring is no problem.

I have the two bike Saris bones. The number plate on my Polo is still freely visible.

Worth checking out the 3 bike version on your car?

Not terribly complicated - neither of us are geniuses at this kind of thing and managed. There are plenty YouTube tutorials that help.

We've got a VW Passat and fitted a tow bar ourselves from a kit. We've got a tow-bar mounted bike rack which can take 3 adult bikes and a kids bike quite happily. We've just returned from the Lakes with it and it was fab.

Any expert advice on how to set up for carrying 3 bikes on a 2015 Golf? I would generally prefer a rear carrying rack rather than a roof one (for multiple reasons... Ease of loading, ability to go under car park barriers, less wind resistance...) But I believe rear racks have the problem of obscuring lights and number plate. I don't have a connection point in the boot so could be expensive I understand.
