Wasn't aware of this thread but seconded to goto the bladdy GP if you are concerned. Having just had a scare with my own "bits" I recommend also regular check ups of your bits and bobs as well as visible marks.

Docs and staff were all professional, I never felt judged for raising the alarm, including the nurse who smiled understandingly at my hilarious "well I'm clearly not here for a 12 week check" joke at the ultrasound clinic.

Glad to hear that. I have also signed up to get Willing. And in slightly less awful news my friend's ICU horror was a side effect of treatment and not cancer in his brain - for now, at least. (If you like Irish history / military history his book on the Nine Years War is now in paperback.)

Told that the mole which has grown is not suspicous but I am getting a referral to dermatology so that they can make sure it is just my age rather than something they need to keep an eye on.

I have 2 moles I keep an eye on, one of which I've been wondering about having checked by a pro again. I'll get it looked at in the next few weeks.

Regarding funeral planning - at least have a list of 3 songs you'd like played/hymns you'd like sung. When my dad died, trying to choose the music was a real trial.

Thanks for the prod @unhurt. Appointment made for Friday.

We did our will through Will Aid which happens in November. It was a very simple process all in all. The consideration of what happens in the event of X or Y and conversations with friends and family is the bit which takes some time.

The problem is with age lots of little moles and coloured patches have started appearing, not to mention gaps in what has been until now impeccably tanned summer skin. Which ones to be worried about and which ones to let slide? I guess a yearly appraisal might be in order? Take advice from your GP would be my advice.

And make that will, and why not, sort out your funeral arrangements while it's still an academic exercise.

It happens but we should still get these things looked at. Doctors screw up sometimes. Who doesn't? With the rest of us the consequences usual aren't that serious.

@morepathsplease yeah. I should make a will, but I keep on not getting round to it...

The same thing but maybe a different way of looking at it - to stop putting things off until the ideal time in a future that may never arrive. I'm not just being pessimistic, which is my default outlook, but we have experienced a close bereavement recently which has given us a wake-up call. Plans now in place to take some action before retirement.

Sometimes it still doesn't work. My sister went to the doctor and was misdiagnosed in her early 20s. A few years later it was correctly identified. Survived a couple of years after that and just made it to 28.

But yes, get them looked at.

maybe get that weird mole you sometimes wonder about checked out.

Spent Sunday evening adjusting to the news that an old friend won't be about much longer because of a weird mole gone rogue. Even if he gets through this week - currently debatable - he won't be seeing his later forties. Or his kids grow up. Gut punched doesn't begin to describe it.
