Cheers folks, think I'll try and find some pannier fixings meanwhile BFL and bungies have been added to the top of the rack.

Bag for life and always carry a couple of bungees in your waterproof pocket.

Also useful for tying big things like family sized toilet rolls and washing powder to your rack.

What wingpig said. You can add a bit of discarded estate agent sign plastic sheet cut to size placed in the base and/or wheel side of the bag - this will help it keep its shape under load and prevent it wafting into the rear wheel.

Bag for life looped round the side of the rack before putting things in it, or a bag for life with a Vaude QMR hook attached.

I've got a green guru free rider that I love. I can chuck a rucksack in it on the commute and if I pop by the shops on the way home I can just put the rucksack on and put the shopping in instead. But it's just a glorified grocery pannier, there are other brands available. Amazon UK imported mine for me.

https://www.greengurugear.com/collections/bike-gear/products/freerider-31l-pannier

I tried bikezacs, they were okay, they fold up nice and small, but didn't fill me with confidence for a big load (I semi regularly have to carry home 10kg of rice).

If it's just light shopping then a Bikezac is what you need. I've got a couple, one of which is always folded up on my rack.

https://bikezac.com

Electron Wheels at Tollcross sell them; also New Leaf at Marchmont.

I've got a 15l Carradice Penrith pannier which I like very much and it's justbig enough for my normal commute. However if I need something from the shops on the way home then I struggle unless I've got planned ahead and taken one of my other bags (Nelson or altura panniers).

Any suggestions?
