“Very alarming but depressingly familiar complacency from government as per usual.”

Yep,

It’s ‘understandable’ that they play to their voting base, but it certainly doesn’t show understanding/leadership by a Gov that pretends it cares about Climate Change.

It’s pure (road building) ‘business as usual’ without any concern about cost benefit analyses, public health issues, NHS demands due to unhealthy population, induced demand etc. etc.

Aberdeen is extraordinary. If a brand new white 4x4 stood for election to the council it would win in most wards.

I hadn't realised quite how bad the AWPR was but it's actively endangering a formerly safe route https://pedalonparliament.org/want-safer-cycling-in-aberdeen-demo-this-sunday/

There's something deeply wrong with transport priorities and policy in Scotland. Very alarming but depressingly familiar complacency from government as per usual.

Well, nothing new for cycling and walking in the Programme for Government. Quite noticeable puffery for the £17m for electric vehicles, charging points etc. While quickly skirting over the £7,000,000,000 on three road schemes (AWPR, A9 and A96 dualling) and the impact these will have on the viability of public and active transport.

<Shrug> Trends in "how did you used to travel and how do you travel now?" (table 10) continue with minor variations. You could switch the tables from any of the last three annual reports and they'd look the same.

Those that drive, continue to drive; those that didn't drive are most likely to switch to driving, even car passengers!

Surely this;

https://www.transport.gov.scot/media/43105/sct08183658301.pdf

and @Morningsider's summary of it;

highest ever volume of road traffic
highest proportion of all trips by car
highest ever number of licensed vehicles
66% of car trips were single occupancy
lowest ever proportion of trips on foot
lowest ever number of recorded bus journeys
highest ever number of air passengers

merits a thread?

Should not all active travel campaigners (including me in my small way) fundamentally rethink their ideas and practice in light of these figures? What we are doing is simply not working. It could even be argued that what we are doing is exacerbating the problem.
