In a world where people are led by the nose into behaving dangerously it's relatively easy to understand how death and injury result - from just a modicum of aggression, carelessness, inattention, or human selfishness and stupidity. So while lax penalties are shocking I can at least understand how a society can find itself being lax in this way. BUT what's unbelievably disgusting is the steady chain of incidents we hear about where those who leave people they've killed lying in the dirt, or people they've injured dying at the edge of the road, and who then claim "sorry I hadn't realised..." get a short ban from driving. So they can drive again. We let them drive again. Really - we do this. We let them drive again, even after they've done the worst things a human being can do with a car or truck (short of actual terrorism), perhaps more than once, we hand the keys back and say "please don't do it again or you're really be in trouble next time."
That I can't forgive.

Apparently he "may not have known he was not insured" - he is literally an insurance broker. Bonkers sentencing.

Harrowing statement I read somewhere from the family stating that the driver had "stolen their retirement from them". Devastating for them. Very sad.

Three years for an uninsured driver who leaves the scene of a collision seems particularly lenient does it not?

One of my customers was hit by driver Michael Bradbury on September 10th last year.
He was in a group of three bikes - all with good lights and reflectives.
As Audaxers these riders were all very road savvy. Driver was half asleep but passed alcohol test.

All three riders were injured and one is now paralysed. Totally devastating outcome for him and his family. The others took a long while to recover and I was shocked when I heard about this last year. The bike he was riding was a high racer with 700c wheels so a similar height to a 'traditional road bike'.

Bradbury will be jailed for 3 years and nine months and be banned from driving for three.

Rider who sent the clipping is thankfully back on his replaced bike and just been cycling over in Netherlands and Belgium on event - the forum's @DaveC is out there.
