The farmer at Covington Mains circa 1791, Archibald Prentice bought twenty copies of Burns' Edinburgh edition.

I smell Masons.

Linkum Doddie is the spot named in Willie Wastle. Burns wrote Willie Wastle whilst staying at the Crook Inn in Tweedsmuir.

The Crook Inn is the site of the Ride to the Sun midnight Rave. Alas the inn itself is gubbed.

On the Covenanters side, Donald Cargill preached on Dunsyre Common 11th July 1681. Caught the next day at Covington Mill and taken to Edinburgh where he was executed 27th July 1681. Tough times.

@greenroofer this data is sourced from the Carluke Gazette. There is a restaurant in Carluke with grafitti in the window also laying claim without authentication

_As I remarked (prestwick 1982) burns was eminent as poet, farmer, lyricist, exiceseman etc. Indeed he was a success in every field he went into (got good laff linked to the double entendre linked to his outdoor intercourse)

Solway Death Waves opened for Salad Vacuum at the Barrowlands in 1996.

Brow Well, scene of the great line from the dying man to his inamorata: 'Well, Madam, have you any commands for the other world?'

Nah, there's a memorial to some covenanters at Covington as well. Turns out it's at Covington Mill, not Covington Mains.

Here

I was out that way today as well - went over Carmichael Hill again. Thankfully in a car.

@Frenchy, no the Burns Society one.

Covenanter's Grave is above Dunsyrre

Covington tiny wee hamlet, one newly renovated cottage nearby with a thatched roof. Lot of deserted roads. indeed the carstairs junction to Petinain road is closed just now to cars. You cross the Clyde many times down there and the Tarmac is smooth

The covenanters one?

Apart from Kirk Lamington where he left some very rude sentiment scratched in the windae

I have bagged the confirmed sites - wee bush inn Carnwath (not called that now) crook in, Tweedsmuir (derelict now but the cycle rave goes there during ride to the sun - ooooh, they could do a Rabbie themed event? Solway death waves, crook inn, embra)

And finally again today but actually read the plaque on the cairn Covington Mains Farm near Thankerton
