Burns wrote Willie Wastle whilst staying at the Crook Inn in Tweedsmuir.</p> <p>The Crook Inn is the site of the Ride to the Sun midnight Rave. Alas the inn itself is gubbed.</p> <p>On the Covenanters side, Donald Cargill preached on Dunsyre Common 11th July 1681. Caught the next day at Covington Mill and taken to Edinburgh where he was executed 27th July 1681.
