"It makes it appear that it's the prospect of "revenue" that has the council turning to a high-tech, high-investment option."

Yes, though it's the "high-tech" bit that appeals to certain people in City Development...

Replace the apparently "invisible" white lines with walls.
Job done. We could use scrap metal from all the dead and crashed cars. Imagine that, a wall of doors and bonnets boots and roofs... could be quite colourful don't you think?

(wow the spam fritter barfed this one back up!)

It would be equally effective to get some men in fluorescent jackets to stand at the side of South Gyle Crescent / Broomhouse / Bankhead drive with a clipboard, writing down the numbers of the cars sitting stationary, queuing in the bus lane.

It will take 20,000 bus lane tickets (assuming they are paid on time @ £30 a shot) to even cover the cost of the cameras. They want it repaid in 5 years meaning they'll need to successfully enforce 4,000 tickets a year. That's about 16 a day (on a 5 day week). You could get 16 in 5 minutes if you went for my above solution. - which is repeated every day come rush hour and enforcement currently seems negligible.

It makes it appear that it's the prospect of "revenue" that has the council turning to a high-tech, high-investment option. It really annoys me that bus lane tickets are seen as revenue. The success of the scheme should be that it issues NO tickets, as drivers are caught and don't repeat offend. I'm sure this camera scheme will catch drivers and be initially successful. And then it will catch less and less as people avoid the bus lanes. Then it will need ever more effort and cameras to continue to protect the "revenue" stream and even cover the operating costs.

Yeah was just about to mention that comment!

Basically - 'if people aren't competent, make excuses for them' - doesn't matter if they are a danger to others!

"Is it not the bus lanes that are responsible in part for the clogged up roads?"

No. No it's really not.

"The main victims will be strangers to the city and
the elderly who have problems with bus lanes at any time. Soft targets criminalised whilst the wily
serial offenders continue to flout the law."

Erm, if you can't see the big painted lane, nor the sign with the times you're allowed in then I'd suggest these strangers and old people shouldn't be driving!
