I once had the ratchets in a freethingy stop catching - with the result you describe. Spinning pedals no driving of the wheel. I'd ended up with (or added in ignorance?) grease in the system, which was too thick. This meant the ratchets getting stuck in the not-catching position rather than springing back into the catching position. I don't remember what the solution was, but faced with the same issue again (and judging that the freethingy was probably scrap) I'd try adding a lighter lubricant hoping to wash away or dilute anything more gunky. Hope that makes half sense. I'm sure an image would help but I'm feeling too lazy to look for one tonight :-)

The hub bearings are an easy fix. Remove the old balls, fill it with grease put new ones in.

<strike>The Freehub body needs to come off to replace the ball bearings so once you've done that</strike> a new one is only £15 and needs a big allen key to remove/install. Probably the easiest drive train job there is.

Apparently it doesn't shows how long its been since I've serviced a rear hub.

Sheldon- everything you ever needed to know about drive hubs.

Sounds like the freehub body is away. Not serviceable but cheap part to replace.

Further techie help needed !!
Was donated this, see pics it’s kind of sharp and fast for me but hey ho, free is free, so all lubed etc and am away for a shake down , free wheel is too free !! Ie sometimes it’s good and sometimes pedals turn but no drive to wheel , not conducive to forward motion , son, I take if rear wheel and do what next? Chuck it away and get new? Or checkable, repairable?
Then remembers can’t upload pics from my phone!
