There were some pretty big potholes as well, last time I went there. Although it's somewhere I try to avoid, so it's been a while.

Surface on the A701, unless it's very recently been repaired. Not large potholes, but lots of small craters appearing in what was probably always a poorly laid surface. Very uncomfortable for prolonged stretches and easily causes pinch flats in thin tires running over it at speed.

Very exciting. Might even ride the Edinburgh loop tomorrow, but I hope they don't get too many punctures on the A701. I'm reluctant to ride that on sub-35mm tires these days.

I had been planning to take the 9th off to go riding elsewhere but I may have to reassess. It's not everyday you can go and watch this kind of fun half a mile from the office.

The Arthur's Seat loop is so short that I would hope they would take the support vehicles off before they start the laps. Although perhaps the UCI rules stop that happening so far out.

Duke's Pass climb on Stage 2 (a bit too early in the stage to be decisive? I don't know) and they're going over the Granites Climb north of Innerleithen on Stage 3 - that's a good climb. Hopefully the three laps of Arthur's Seat to finish will mean it won't be a bunch sprint (though I wonder how small the loop is going to be - the field could be well strung out by that point (that's what I'd hope for) and if they're just going round the park that's not a lot of space for a strung out peloton and a lot of cars...)

From the cyclingnews link:
"The race would clash with the European Championships."

That might hinder the attendance of big names.

Looks likely -

“

The official route is due to be announced in the coming weeks but organisers have said that the event will take place ‘across Scotland’. The total distance of the race is set to be 350 kilometres, making it an average of 116 kilometres per-stage.
