+3 for Aviemore. Now with the added benefit of a new Aldi up near the Winking Owl !!

Great offroad cycling, took my son round Rothiemurchus this summer, done it a few times. Walking round the Green Loch also good fun. We did canoeing on Loch Morlich as well.

I can recommend a good 2 bed apartment with parking and a bike shed if required.

+2 for Aviemore/Rothiemurchus. Loads of off-road routes for all abilities, lots of bike shops and lots of cake. Lots and lots of cake.

Glen tilt paths not easily cycle-able. would mainly be on (quiet) road, which is not as scenic as path.

Take @SRD's route and add on Glen Tilt? Blair reachable by train.

Trossachs have lots of potential- base in Callander, The Route 7 in either direction either N past Loch Lubhnaig and Strathyre etc or W around Loch Venarchar and Loch Katrine- with a steamer one way?

there's a long forestry road up and above Loch ness that is also very nice. the huts you can rent at the canal are cool (designed by a local cycling architect).

we cycled on the road from Blair atholl to the falls, pushed our bikes (well the kids cycled; i pushed) up the path almost to the upper falls, then cycled across/back on the most gorgeous roads. but the map suggests there is a lower off-road rout as well as the higher one we did. linking them up into a circuit might be more of a challenge for some folk.

off-road? what about that loch in Kinross? is that too short?

good food on the fife coastal path (but possibly better walked than cycled and not circular.

lots of forestry commission roads and paths in the loch lomond area?

We enjoyed cycling on the paths between Blair Atholl and the Falls of Bruar recently. absolutely gorgeous and pretty good surfaces. possibly a bit hilly

Dumfries? Plenty of quiet back roads and accessible by train if you're not in a hurry. E.g. could cycle out from Dumfries to Beeswing via the Old Military Road and have lunch at Loch Arthur Creamery and then go on via New Abbey to the Mabie Forest hotel - It's about five miles back from there to Dumfries and there's an off road path along the A711. Or head out to Moniaive via the back roads where there are a couple of lunch options. Both routes a bit hilly depending on what you think of as hilly but nothing too horrible.

Work colleague would like to go away for the night with her pal.

She would like them to cycle approx two hours off road - gravel paths, quiet roadsetc then have a spot of lunch then cycle back, maybe in a circle.

Back to a hotel or B and B (she has been known to go camping but not in this instance)

She would like there to be not too many hills.

She said up North but guess could be Northumberland etc

Anyone have any suggestions?
