Locanda di gusti is excellent and the pizza place they run across the road huge fun. the fried seafood is spectacular, and they serve sparking wine in these huge coupes.

both places have excellent quality food and lovely service. recommended.

I am going to Locanda di Gusti for a long semi liquid lunch on Friday - yum.

Kebab Mahal in Nicholson Sq is awesome and BYOB. Cafe Artista Marchmont is BYOB and fantastic pizzas.

Kind of depends what you want?

Cumberland bar does lovely grub and good beer.

I have only eaten Breakfast at Scott's. Having said that, it was a sensational huevos rancheros.

Its a fair trek from dalmeny station though.

The Safari lounge at Abbeyhill does very good, not your usual pub food.

Pizza Posto on Nicholson Street do the best pizza (but only pizza) I've had outside italy, and its verging on cheap, even for their drink.

I have heard great things about a wee tapa deli on Dalry Road but not tried it myself yet - opposite Maplins.

Leithwise I'd suggest both Walnut (BYOB) and the Little Chartroom but you'd have to have booked before the last ice age in truth. I hear the Chop House is also worth a look though not had a chance to visit.

The pizza place in Dalry across from Locanda di Gusti (they own it) looks jolly - red table cloth, neopolitan pizzas, both red and white wine. My kind of place.

Fancier Dishoom is the Curry House for the cognoscenti.

Roti on the bridges is BYOB

The wee place just after Kalpna up where the Odeon was (south Clerk Street) is also BYOB. THey once made me a four foot pancake which I thought was going to be filled but was in fact dry just for dipping.

Guru at end of Dundee St also good as is Piatta the Italian next to it. V close to Mecca as CAMRA called Diggers a while back

From my "haymarket and west" perspective:
If you want a pub, the Caley Sample Room http://thecaleysampleroom.co.uk/
or the Fountain http://www.fountainbar.co.uk/

Also near Haymarket but a bit more expensive: First Coast for nice Scottish food https://www.first-coast.co.uk/
and Riverlife http://www.riverlifeedinburgh.co.uk/ "French Carribean" - bring your own bottle.

I was recommended Scott's in Port Edgar this weekend. I haven't yet been myself though and I don't imagine it's easy to get to by bus.

I have a freind visiting and we are eating out later.

In the past we have eaten at South Queensferry (The Hawes Inn), Duddingston (The Sheep's Heid), and in town as a burger place. It is a mate not a date, and I wondered if anyone had any suggestions of a good place to get a bite to eat, other than the usual pubs in town. I don't mind a bus or train ride for 30 mins to get out of it is a good recomenation.

Cheers, Dave C
