I dunno if I'm anti boatels per se, just not by Boroughmuir School. I'd bet some existing house boats are airbnb'ing.

Scottish Canals are utterly skint - the Union and Forth & Clyde canals came pretty close to being closed to full navigation in the last year, as they couldn't afford to fix several bridges. Only a last minute cash injection from the Scottish Government saved the day. I would imagine they will be happy to get any commercial income - so expect more of this.

I can't help but wonder if the sudden fixing of the erupting towpath and the replacement of the sorry looking trees with nice new trees this last week is anything to do with the boatel decision.

Scot gov seems often to over turn local decisions. On the plus side the hotel guests will be able to score some skunk by taking a short wander up the tow path

I’m very disappointed that the Scottish Government has overturned the council’s refusal of “boatels” beside Boroughmuir High School. Very poor decision IMO. Decision notice:

The barges and homes lining the Amstel on my way into work today added a sense of neighbourhood rather than "hotel" I felt. Although they are genuinnely homes, and bigger than many flats in Edinburgh. I love AMS.

Also I would like to propose 'aubarge' rather then the clunky 'boatel'.

Who will be responsible for removing the drowned bodies from the canal? This should be stated upfront as a planning condition.

Objections from permanent canal boat residents? There is provision of short term lets in this area for sure. Flats, existing boats, Hilton down on the main drag.

Is it party central down that way?

(is this already on another thread?)

scheme to have short term lets on canals near boroughmuir.

seems to be an attempt to generate income from canal for Scottish Canals.
