As I understand it, one of the things the new team will be looking at is ways to determine how to get students to recycle bikes (by donating to recycling charities) rather than just leaving them to gather dust...

Spokes gets queries about abandoned bikes and there is no clear way of getting them dealt with. You may have luck the Council, or someone at the Localities team or tweeting @edinhelp, however it does seem fairly hit and miss.

Interesting. When, in law, does a bicycle become "abandoned" entitling anyone to remove it? Should the student leaving his bike over the summer holidays have his fond hopes of it still being there on his return dashed?

"We are looking for 4-5 volunteers with varied backgrounds, skills and experience, to help us solve the problem of abandoned bikes in Edinburgh. Whether you are a keen cyclist, a passionate researcher, or just like to make things out of old stuff, we want you!"
