Seems you can only book one bike per coach.

Not quite, there are some services where "We have six available services that can carry up to two bikes at any time, and bike socks are provided upon boarding." They are
919: Inverness | Fort William
917: Inverness | Portree
961: Inverness | Ullapool
914/915/916: Glasgow | Skye
and you can book one bike per passenger. You had me very worried there, but I've just checked (not gone as far as paying, admittedly, but did the booking bikes part).

Does this mean you can’t take a wrapped bike as luggage without pre-booking?

That I can't work out from the website.

Additionally, you can find our branded stylish VELOSOCK bike socks on all of our coaches across Scotland, which can carry one bike at any time.

Booking your bike on the bus is easy! Simply reserve your bike space as an Additional Hold Item when purchasing your seat reservation online via our journey planner.

I had assumed VELOSOCK was just a big bag, but not according to photo in link.

Seems like a close fit for conventional racer.

Anyone used them.

Seems you can only book one bike per coach. Does this mean you can’t take a wrapped bike as luggage without pre-booking?

Clause 56 Scottish Citylink conditions of carriage covered and packed for transit. NB on a COACH not a bus

@GreshamFlyer, so it was you I took the picture of on the 18.00 one evening? Off at Roseburn?

Stagecoach likewise - fastest way from Dunfermeline to Glasgow excepy in morning peak Clause 7

Expect some developments though, noting the Edinburgh-Perth coach via M90 is faster than train, and Glasgow-Broxden is also as fast as train (1 hour) ... and you get coffee & scone on Citylink Gold services

What sort of cover do you need to take a bike on a bus? I have done it once but no cover on a train replacement bus.

Non folding bike on the 900.. pannier...cover... 1 minute.... that'd be me then :) Surprising how often I get asked "so can you take bikes on the bus then?". Never a problem - some drivers even complimenting me for being so "sorted".

I had a very useful meeting with Scottish Citylink last week. They are looking at how to improve the offer to cyclists for taking bikes on their coach services.

Currently Clause 56 (conditions of carriage) applies, and this has been the salvation for many unable to catch that key 08.21 train to Oban for the Ferries - the 08.30 976 gets you there in time as well. It has also delivered a nicer journey from Ullapool to Inverness (961) than sharing the A835 with fish and timber trucks...

There may also be a need to establish ways to offer this to groups on cycling holidays. Early days yet, but with the increased train capacity, and Calmac keen to promote more ferry use, without using up deck space for cars, there is a developing opportunity.

I've also noted non folding bikes going on the 900 (24 hr service Edinburgh-Glasgow) with one guy arriving, taking off pannier, wrapping bike, and getting on the coach in around 1 minute...

Note also that Borders buses, have new vehicles on order for the X62, which will have space for bikes included. Edinburgh- Peebles-Glentress-Galashiels. Plus a hint that the X95 may occasionally be operated with coaches between Galashiels and Carlisle.

PM for more detail as it comes available
