Does anyone know if the bike bays are compatible with 27.5 plus size tyres?

could almost be an album title "it's better once you're past Loadhead".

Probably by a Borders version of Seasick Steve.

That said, I alternate between pedalling Kirkbrae/Lasswade and just getting Border's rail to Eskbank and starting there. Minimal difference in time to get that far, and Kirkbrae is never pleasant so missing a largely grim 16km seems a reasonable swap.

Can't say I agree with that - once you're past Loanhead

I think the problem is more getting to Loanhead in the first place.

I agree entirely - I'm talking specifically about getting out as far as Loanhead (or whereever) where the 'nice roads' actually start.

But yes - always ends up being a big day out whichever way you go!

All the routes out that way are a bit naff.

Can't say I agree with that - once you're past Loanhead the way out over the Granites to Innerleithen or the old coach road to Galashiels are nice to ride. The Meldons are good too. For me, the fact that when you add in a decent loop in the Borders you end up with a total distance approaching 100 miles has more of a bearing on things.

Also an exciting way to get into the Borders for some country roads cycling without having to negotiate your way out of town. All the routes out that way are a bit naff.

Borders Buses also has a phone app for ticket purchase, AND it can also tell you what type of bus is going to turn up.

This could tip the balance for many cycling in to Edinburgh from Penicuik, currently deterred by a night time ride home on the busy rural roads outside the city centre.

A FLEET of new bike-friendly buses arrived in Peebles this week.

Borders Buses have invested £750,000 in three brand new vehicles to service its X62, Peebles to Edinburgh, route.

The vehicles, E400 double deckers, have been custom designed and built by bus manufacturer Alexander Dennis.

Each bus accommodates up to two bike bays with, following positive feedback from customers, two additional bays being added to each vehicle by the end of May.
