I was getting confused, Spokes didn't suggest it as a cycle route, but someone in another council consultation did suggest designating it as an official wildlife site.

The council's response was "No change proposed as site has been assessed as potential LBS previously and didn’t pass the assessment."

I'm not sure what LBS stands for, although I suspect it is not "local bike shop" in this case. Perhaps local biology site, or similar?

EDIT: It's local biodiversity site.

Someone else is saying it's a proposal from a local community development Trust and a new charity called One Dalkeith. They also said the cutting would not be filled in.

Anyway its a poor plan. There's ways through on Ancrum Road and through the new estate between the police station and the college.

This bit? https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=18/55.88714/-3.07916

I'm fairly sure Spokes' response to the recent active travel strategy suggested it could be used as a cycle path, but can't remember if the council responded to that idea. Will try and dig it out.

There's a strip of land for sale parallel to and adjacent to Ancrum Road in Eskbank, between Dalhousie Road and Newbattle Road.

Although this land is advertised for property developments (oo £100k), there are rumours that it could be made into a cycle path. It would require substantial work as it's a railway cutting with mature woodland.

Anyone else hear of this?

FWIW I would be campaigning against any development here. It is a valuable if under appreciated wildlife corridor and shelter. Owls, deers, foxes, hedgehogs...

I always feel sick when yet more green land is developed, particularly 'wild' land.
