You'd be looking at an even steeper descent into tunnel from Cowlairs (although, admittedly, it's very impressive how the new electric trains pretty much shrug off the climb up through the tunnel when leaving Queen Street), and also quite a steep rise up to track level south of the Clyde (and would you want to connect only to the Paisley lines, or have multiple tunnel exits to connect to any of the others?).</p> <p>By far the simplest thing to do would just be to build (little construction actually needed) the long-proposed Glasgow CrossRail via Springburn, Bellgrove, Glasgow Cross (with potential interchange to the Argyle Line) and the St Enoch bridge.
